Surely I'm not the only one?

Firstly, I'm not trying to have a go or criticise anybody who posts 'I've gone off Prince' type threads; if they've lost interest in Prince then that's fine. I'm just glad I've been a fan for 22 years and I'm still enjoying such a great artist who continues to release music even now. But that's just bully for me.

Now, I'm certainly not one of those people who just loves everything he does and blindly claim it as genius, nor do I think every decision of his is right on and 'he can do what he wants and we should be grateful for whatever he gives us', etc etc. But you know, I really don't see myself ever losing interest in the man's music.
Sure, 'Song Of The Heart' sucks jumbo-sized donkey balls, Rave Un2/In2 was Prince's nadir and ONA Live was disappointing (apart from the third disc)*, but none of those releases or eras has ever put me off enthusiastically welcoming whatever the man puts out next and each new release always gets an enthusiastic first few listens from me.

I've fiercely criticised his actions in the past (mainly over the NPGMC Yr 2 fiasco), but I know that after a short while of giving myself a Prince break, I'll be back and ready for whatever's next.

Again, not criticising anyone nor claiming that I'm any better fan than anybody else, but I'm surely not alone in feeling this way that even after all the disappointments that I've sometimes had, I know I'll always be a fan for as long as he's putting out music (and beyond, I suppose).

Feel free to accuse me of being a 'fam' or writing 'first' and then editing your post when you realise you aren't biggrin

hmmm So maybe my post should have read like this?

Firstly, I'm going to criticise people who post 'I've gone off Prince' type threads; if they've lost interest in Prince then why bother telling us about it? We don't give a fuck! I'm just glad I've been a fan for 22 years and I'm still enjoying such a great artist who continues to release music even now. That makes me a better person than many others on this website.

Now, I'm certainly not one of those people who just loves everything he does and blindly claim it as genius, nor do I think every decision of his is right on and 'he can do what he wants and we should be grateful for whatever he gives us', etc etc. Those sort of people are clearly dumbasses and stupid and should be shot for being ultrafams. But you know, I really don't see myself ever losing interest in the man's music cos I'm superior to the rest of you.
Sure, ALL his 80s material sucks jumbo-sized donkey balls, Rave Un2/In2 was Prince heaven and ONA Live was better than any live boot (especially better than anything other fans may think is good)*, but none of those releases or eras has ever put me off enthusiastically welcoming whatever the man puts out next and each new release always gets an enthusiastic first few listens from me and other people should do the same, otherwise they're clearly not fans at all and deserve meningitis or something.

I've fiercely criticised none of his actions in the past (even when he killed all those orphans), but I know that after a short while of giving myself a shot of class A drugs, I'll be back and ready for whatever's next.

Again, I'm criticising everyone and claiming that I'm a better fan than anybody else. As I am! And I'm surely not alone in feeling this way that even after all the disappointments that I've sometimes had, I know I'll always be a fan for as long as he's putting out music (and beyond, I suppose). All Orgers who disagree with me are sheepyasskissingkool-aidaddictivetwonks and they ought to die cos they don't agree with me.

Feel free to accuse me of being a 'fam' or writing 'first' and then editing your post when you realise you aren't, but I remember that I know where you live and will kill you all in your beds!!!

*All fact!

Oops, forgot to say how superior my opinion is edit

He's one artist I think I'll always be interested in listening to, it waivers at times, but I'll always have that curiosity about his music, what's he doing now etc.

No,
my shit smell likes roses.

Some have told me that it's probably because I'm the Second Coming of Christ.
I'm praying that this isn't true.
As my rampant obesity can testify,
I don't shoulder responsibilty all that well,
let alone that kind of responsibilty.
I'm hoping that it has something more to do with my diet.

However, if does turn out to be true,
then I can honestly say that everyone one of youse is truly screwed.
Because, if I'm going down (or in this case, the proper term may be "up"),
then I'm taking as many of you fuckers with me as I can.

None of this "Forgive them for they know not what they do" bullshit.

(Oh...& my apologies, 'stack. I didn't mean to get all P&R on your thread.)

Sometimes after going to so many shows and meeting Prince and being completely hardcore since the beginning of 1998, even though I've been a fan and knew that Prince was a genuis musician from the start of his career, I get the feeling that I should try to get over him and stop spending so much money, etc, and then I'll see him on tv or listen to a bootleg or something and think, I will never completely get over Prince. If I live to be 80, I will always think of him and his music and the memmories.

My interest in Prince has dropped in the last few years, and I don't listen to him a great deal at the moment but he remains one of my favourite artists.
I'll always buy his albums, for sure. nod

you know, he left me in the dust around the time of TRC. his religious orientation, the censorship of classic lyrics, retraction of his former image... all of it made me wince.

i stayed on the prince wagon for a while, still buying stuff, and then i realized i was just not into prince's new direction as much as i had been about his older stuff. yet, still i felt this connection to his music and still his older music was in heavy rotation on my playlist.

then, i worked up the nerve to free myself. i gave away a bunch of stuff i'd bought of his from the period 2001 forward, stuff i wasn't into (like TRC) and would likely never play again. stopped listening mostly to prince and began listening to other people's work.

now i'm enjoying the feeling of being 'less connected' to prince's mindset than when i was a fan attending parties at the park weekly. it doesn't really matter to me if he does something weird musically or personally.

it was like kicking a habit, or an addiction. i still come here to the ORG, but i haven't made the effort to go to vegas and don't feel a lot of stress over missing the experience entirely. i was lucky to see him play at the park back when and i'll catch him in concert when/if he comes back to minneapolis. the funny thing is i think i make an even better 'fan' now.

and, ironically, i was cleaning out some old closets the other day and came across my original, original prince stuff from twenty years plus. albums and cassettes, my old collection. i'm glad to still have it.
