Snap

This is actually the one pre-Purple Rain song that's pretty easy to find since it was in some songbook compilations and had its own sheet music. Someone should be around soon with the answer.

Here's my arrangement of "I Wanna Be Your Lover."

The chords are:

Emaj7, Ebm7, and Abm7. The bass is playing Ab, Gb, and B notes respective to these chords, so to change things up, you can play Abm, Gb, and B chords instead.

Simply play fragments of these chords along with some slides, and scratching, and you'll sound just like Prince. Listen to the song for the exact rhythm and try these voicings during the verses:

--- --- --- ---
-9\ /(9 -7- 9)
-8\ /(8 -6- 8)
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---

--- -7- ---
/9- -7- -9-
/8- --- -8-
--- --- ---
--- --- ---
--- --- ---

--- --- ---
/(9 -7- 9)
/(8 -6- 8)
--- --- ---
--- --- ---
--- --- ---

-x- -x- -x- -7-
-x- -x- -x- -7-
-x- -x- -x- -8-
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---

Try adding these lines alternatively to the main riff above:

--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
-6- (4- -6- -4)
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---

--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- -4-
-6- (4- -6) ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---

Try this for the chorus:

--- ---
-9- -7-
-8- -6-
-9- -8-
-7- -6-
--- ---

--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- -6- (4- -6)
--- --- --- ---
-4- --- --- ---

--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- -6- (4- -6)
--- --- --- ---
-4- --- --- ---

--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- --- --- ---
--- -6- (4- -6)
--- --- --- ---
-4- --- --- ---

---
---
---
---
---
-4-

And finally, the second guitar is repeating these notes during the hook:

-14-
---
-11-
---
---
---

...if you're interested, here's the ending:

--- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- --- ---
/6- --- --- --- --- ---
--- (0- -2) -4- -2- -4-

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- -4- -4- --- --- --- ---
-4- -6- --- --- --- --- --- ---
--- --- --- --- -4- (0- -2)---4--

Solo over the Gb and Abm chords and impress your friends!

I fucked around with this this morning before work, and I love it! The chords sound pretty good on an acoustic. I'll probably play this version or a variant thereof from now on.

Thanks!

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another
