Come, the first album I was disappointed in.

What was the first Prince album that didn't live up to your Princely expectations? Mine was Come...I can listen now and can appreciate it, but it was the first album that I tried to like more than I really did. I got the same feeling from Chaos, Rave, Musicology, and 3121 as well.

Around the World in a Day.

From Prince to Dirty Mind to Controversy to 1999 to Purple Rain, each album breaking new ground and IMHO each building on the last going to a new level.

Then when I first heard ATWIAD I was seriously dissappointed. Like you said, I can appreciate it now, but back then my first reaction was mad confused .

Emancipooption I guess.

The first in a long line of unlimited edition Prince-themed coasters.

Later to be usurped by Rave, which to it's credit, still holds the title of 'The Sound You Hear Whilst In Hell And Satan Is Raping You Up The Bum With The Cross Jesus Died On'. ill

For You

I listened to it once about 2 years ago. Then I put it on my Prince shelf.

It hasn't left that shelf since. neutral

Controversy, for me. It was one of the last albums that I bought, and I think it's the weakest album of his '80s run.
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

That's kinda the same for me. I started buying everything I could by the guy and was finally caught up in 1990 or so. I loved every single album except "For You". Still feel the same way about his classic period. I don't think it's a bad album, it just isn't a very exciting debut.

The first Prince album I ever bought was Emancipation (for $9.99). It was a big disappointment: I couldn't even find one song I really liked out of 3-discs! At least New Power Soul had one decent song, 'Mad Sex'.
Thank god I didn't judge him based on that one purchase.
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

Diamonds and Pearls--anyone at the time could have put out an album like D&P, and a lot of them did.

I remember being so excited when this came out, rushing home and putting it on the turntable and then thinking "WTF!!"
With the exception of AnnaS, the album sucks. It didnt help matters much when he released the CD with only one long track on it. Dumbass!!

Pretty cool cover tho... lol

At least it prepared me for the disappointment of Batman...

All of you are crazy:

Both Come and Chaos & Disorder are the best albums of prince years.

And why all the Controversy hate also???

sad

Same here! ATWIAD was the first Prince album that I was dissapointed with. After 'Dirty Mind','Controversy','1999' and 'Purple Rain',it was a major letdown. The previous albums were edgy and groundbreaking.I enjoy a few songs from ATWIAD but it's never been one of my favorite Prince albums.

Give Come another listen.
At first i thought it was the worse thing Prince has ever done but infact it's an excellent album.

It's the best sounding Prince album ever; the mixes are suberb.

First disappointment was Batman. Just to find out that Graffiti Bridge was even far worse. I think that this is one of his worst album ever.
Come is actually a really great album in my opinion.

Loved everything from 'Prince' to 'Lovesexy' as they came out, all wonderfully different, & I was smitten, then the BIG disappointment came with Batman, Graffitti Bridge even more so when I heard what he had done to We Can Funk (& even tho I'm a huge Clinton fan), & for me it's been individual tracks but no full album has blown me away. since then
I liked a lot of Come when it came out, but not all.

another problem with ATWIAD...it's too slow! "America" is the fastest song on there, but most of the other songs aren't very fast.Yeah,I know...I'm beginning to sound like Vainandy, lol.

I love ATWIAD...it has that surreal, playful, Beatles-like feel that makes it so fun and memorable. Not to mention almost every song is good.
