so in UTCM... were Tricky and Chris actually meant to be brothers?
I've read a few reviews of this movie, and each refers to the two characters as brothers or half-brothers. I'd always gotten the impression that the bit where Chris is talking about Tricky claiming they're brothers after the police haul him away is supposed to be a joke. Hence the "butterscotch, chocolate" line. And anyway, if they were supposed to be brothers, that just makes the blatant homoeroticism (even if it was unintentional) kinda funny, dontcha think? It's not like that was just a sheet Chris threw down over the rocks for he and Mary to fool around on. Chris and Tricky. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I just suspected that Tricky was gay. He was making all those campy comments:
"I never dance before midnight" "Girl you know I loved you for years" "Honey don't you know I'll slap the waves out your head?" I love a Man who:

Maybe they were adopted by the same woman...that would make them brothers and explain why they don't look anything alike. Just my Prince Rogers Nelson

I don't know about that but why is it that Mary's mom is so much hotter than Mary? All good things they say never last...

UTCM.
I have funny memories of this movie. I saw it opening weekend in Philly at the Regency at 16th & Chestnut with my Mom and about 10-15 people most of whom were laughing at the movie. And also laughing at the on going loud commentary of the wino at the back of the theater about the film. (The wino thought Prince was gay, that whole lacey do-rag thing Prince wore playing the piano did not help matters though). That and my mom exclaiming (out loud) how ugly Prince's love interest was? So I tend to look at UTCM as a comedy even tough I think it was intended to be a drama. I always thought UTCM would have been better if the Prince role was played my Morris Day. The soundtrack was and is amazing, still. Chris [Edited 2/16/07 10:19am]

I think Under The Cherry Moon is a nice bit of fluff. It's camp as tits, it's got some genuinely funny moments (Wrecka Stow, Cabbagehead etc.) and it's just a nice, simple story. Oh, and it's beautifully filmed, very artistic visually.
Oh, and the soundtrack is good too. Anyone know if it's available on CD?

The Time had performed somewhere and Jerome asked the audience if there were any prince.org members. Several people cheered and Jerome started going off..... Why don't you motherfuckers get a job? All y'all do is sit around and type lies all day long. I'm going to start typing me some shit. I don't know what or which lies he was talking about but the funny thing is, there had been a thread going on at the time and people were discussing whether or not they thought Jerome was gay. . .
