Prince~4 U Can I just say I'm so proud of this LP???
We know its not a masterpiece comparing to SOTT/1999/Parade but you just can't deny that its a POWERFULL debut coming from just 19 yrs old brotha who came from MPLS. I just LUV the fact that every lil' tiny instrument in there was played by PRINCE, just everything from drums to 'winds' to 'orchestra bells'. I played it at work 2day "the hole LP" and some customer came to be and said "This is very good, is that Smocky Robinson??" I said "Nope, thats Prince" LOL just remembring her face right now like she's saying "What the hell The title was choosen perfectly "FOR YOU". Its like he did his best, put his blood and sweat in one piece just FOR YOU. Kinda funny or stupid observation but thats how a I look at it.

Oh yes, Baby is my song I just love the 'doo woop' part and outro is the best part, its so Motown. And In love is my fave uptempo. Crazy you shoulda been longer tho,,
See, thats the only and the WORSE thing about that LP, Songs are too damn short. Just as long as we're 2ghether is the longest one which is 6:24. Sometimes I wonder what will he include if he re-mastered this piece?? Boy, I trip when I think about that!

I remember reading that he never liked listening to that record because of this very reason. He had spent so much time, energy and money in creating this perfect deput LP that he could no longer stand to listen to it. Apparently, because he couldn't hear any flaws! I guess that goes to show that even Prince enjoyed hearing imperfections in his records.

And I don't blame him at all I'm a musician myself(Pianist 2 be exact), I composed this long instrumental jazz piece called "Adam's apple" and I spend a week composing this mofo believe it or not, I basicly put my heart body and soul on that song cuz I was going thro an intense moment and I want to get this over with by composing a piece. It was last year and I made myself a promise that I don't listen to it, my brother and my best friend praised that piece ao much and they even did a hard jop convincing me to take a listen to it but I was afraid to. Its funny when ppl find your work so PERFECT while you don't

Listen For You was really an excellent album from a Newcomer who did basically all of the work in the Studio Alone. The 19 year old was and is a Genius and Child Prodigy. It should Definitely be Added to one's collection if it Already isn't to see just where he started and henceforth to where Musically he is now. And my Goodness the Picture of Prince with an Afro on his bed with Guitar is worth it alone for Collectors!

Oh my goodness! I'm so happy I'm not the only one on the planet that cranks For You while driving in the car! Has anyone had someone ask you who that is you were listening too? The whole album has such a nice groove to it. It's mellow and smooth, yet funky. Totally organic, and that's what I love about it. The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon...dammit!

For You, is an absolutely marvalous albulm! From the beginning of Side 1 to the end of The Other Side it totally does it for me.
Prince you are a beautiful genius! Keep struttin' your stuff darlin'! ~~~~~~~~~~~

I like it too... it wouldn't be one of my favourites, but it really isn't as bad as some people make it out to be.

For You is pretty cool. I remember driving around in the eighties listening to "Just as long as we're together". Pretty feel good album. [This message was edited Wed Sep 11 18:46:33 PDT 2002 by cracknbush] cracknbush

For You's one of my favorites also. I imagine him being a young kid in the studio working on this album, playing all the instruments, working on each part, redoing it, and trying it once again. Let me add something here, fix this there, put that part over there, etc. etc. The songs are entertaining... each time he repeats a phrase, something new is added. I can get lost in all the different pieces to this puzzle.
