nostalgic of that era like I said, I was just a baby but my sister was a big Prince fan in fact, the very reason why I love his shit from that time so much during the Purple Rain era my sister thought she was the black Apollonia she & all her friends dressed like the folks from the movie [Edited 2/19/07 15:13pm] because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

God, yes....I loved the sleeves. The one of Prince in bed...my then boyfriend, who thought he was Prince, made me photograph him in that position. I swear I have to find it now, scan it, and post it.
Also, there was a pic of Prince in a shower with the bikini on. Dripping. My ex copied that one too. I think he was a bigger fan than I was. I remember going out one night to a club, with 3 in wide black lace wrapped around my eyes. I love the scene in PR when he sees App come in with Morris, and pulls the lace from his eyes. Liner notes will never be the same on CD- not to mention no more posters! I totally identify with a lot of what was already said here. I'm absolutely a different person because of Prince. I became a hard-core fan right around 15 so he def. helped shape my views/attitudes re: sex, freedom, and religion and politics to some extent. I consider myself lucky to have grown up with the "old" Prince- before the JW's and giving up cursing and all that. Not saying I want him to go back to that, I'm just glad I was able to go along for the whole ride, growing up/maturing with him. Oh, and my 1986 HS yearbook caption holds a quote from Uptown.... Wow, My 1986 HS yearbook has nothing but Prince stuff all over it. I think there were only a few die hards at our Highschool and yea they thought we were very weird but I would not trade that for nothing in the world. 2SEXY

Honestly, my parents were too afraid to talk to me about sex. So yes Prince did educate me on Sex and made me very very curious about sexuality and religion in general. He really got my mind thinking about things that at that time and era in our lives that most folks especially parents were too afraid to say. I am sure they thought about it but that was a time where everything was so so ultra conservative and Prince came on the scene and broke the mode of all that by totally just being free. Free to express ideals and desires and just be so real. 2SEXY

I had a home made compilation tape in my first car when I was 18 (late 80's) that was full of stuff like Dirty Mind, Erotic City, Sexuality etc..I remember driving around that summer with the windows down and the stereo blasting out Do It All Night.
It never did much for my sex life because I never dated a girl who liked Prince much but yup great days indeed. " A mind changed against its will, is of the same opinion still"

The entire Controversy album!

The "old Prince" was the absolute best. His music was hard as hell with just the right amount of funk and rock combined. He had a sound like nothing else on R&B radio. Jams like "Head" influenced Ebonee Webb to make "Something About You" before Prince had even come out with The Time.
He was extremely mysterious. He also seemed to "never wear clothes" back then (just look at the album covers). Even with the "Controversy" album, he still was wearing underwear on the inside poster. I remember either Prince, or someone in his camp, giving an interview to "Right On" and they said girls would come up to the intercom at his house and ask could they come in. When he would tell them no, they would ask "Why?.....Are you sitting around in your underwear?". There were all kinds of wild stories like that in the "Right On" magazines back then. The feud with Rick James back then was great too. Each year, they both got wilder and wilder with their appearance and each album got better and better coming from both of them. Rick had protegees, so did Prince. Rick was constantly badmouthing Prince on the radio and in the magazines. I'm telling ya, it was great entertainment! After "Purple Rain", Prince was never the same again but the years that led up to it were definately his strongest and best years! . . [Edited 3/9/07 14:54pm] Andy is a four letter word.

In 1982 I started my 1st semester at Purdue. We played 1999,Controversy and the Prince album EVERYDAY for the entire semester. When I say everyday.....I mean 7 days a week. I think every person in my dorm was a Prince fan at the time.
That was very cool.....
