Old School Prince Heads..lets talk about the old prince stuff Ok. Here is a board for the old prince fans. Meaning I am 38 years old, so let us talk about Controversy, Prince, For You, and Dirty Mind. Explain to me your favorite songs from one of the following albums and what/how did that song influence you growing up.
I will start with Dirty Mind and the song was Uptown, Party up and Head. I tell people all the time that I learned about Sex by listening to Prince on this Album, yes Album not CD's. My parents were very closed-minded, I use to play this album and be like wild, that is very interesting, and I started to discover things about sex that I did not know. Controversy made me very rebellious and I became a maniac and caused my parents hell as a teen. I dyed my hair became very weird in their eyes and very punk rock. I became withdrawn and soon discovered my own beat and did not care what others thought about me and the way I dressed nor looked. I was really out there and my favorite song was Ronnie talk to Russia, Let's work and Annie Christian. I was discovering who God was and sex. I will add more later..this is just a start..this is only for the OLD SCHOOL PRINCE HEADS OUT THERE!! 2SEXY... 2SEXY

Hey....I am pretty new around here but I just had to reply on this one!! I too was influenced by the old school Prince songs that led to a sinful life of experimental WILD sex and doing things that I now am even ashamed to tell me teenage son. ...But, what awesome days they were!!.....My most memorable songs would have to be Get Off...Cream...and Little Red Corvette, I close my eyes and think of the image I always imagined Prince doing in these songs. Thanks for posting this one!!....Guess I'm a bit older of a fan than most, huh?

I started listening to Prince at the beginning of the "1999" era. I had not heard his earlier recordings. 1999 was diferent from anything that was out during that time. It was the long track times that really appealed to me. to this day, i love it when I hear a Prince track that runs over the 4 minute mark.Automatic is still one of my favorite tracks. It was the very first Prince song I had ever heard. I remember asking the person who played the record, "Who the fuck is that?'
It was because of 1999 that bought his other recordings and that hooked me since. I must admit however, it took me several years to warm up to his music that predates 1999. Even now I do not listen to the early stuff as much as I do the current music. Strangely I really like listening to TRC and 3121. Once in awhile I will play the early music, and it makes me think of when I was a teenager. Most of that was daring for its time and it really made my parents say, "What the hell did he say?'

I did some things...well I am sure we all did and probably still do . It is hard to not have a partner that is not open minded and does not understand Prince and the purpledome. My ex husband and I had a connection there...but he had other plans that I was not included in...oh well, still searching for that one. What about going to the concerts dressed like Vanity 6, man tose were the days. It was so much fun. I think that being a Prince fan keeps you young and having fun. I think I look good for 40.

Yep, i remember dressing up as Vanity 6 and just being truly wild and out there. I think my parents thought i had truly lost my mind. In fact, the only guys I would go out had to like Prince or I was not interested. I had to sneak to listen to most of those songs back then, so i would go over my best friends house and her parents were always out and we would listen to The Time and play all of Prince really Dirty stuff. It was truly the days before he left Warner Bros. You look good for 40 and I think i am really holding my own for 38. I also had to sneak and go to the concerts with him, vanity 6 and the time. But it was well worth it and my parents to this very day tell everyone how much of a FANATIC I was back then. I guess, i cant be too upset with my son, since he is into Rap and all because compared to what we were listening with Prince. 2SEXY

Yes you are but Join the club because we all are on this. Those songs allowed me to truly be who I am today. I am very free spirit with no inhibitions when it comes to alot of things. I am an avid Motorcycle Rider because of Prince riding in Purple Rain and I have done alot of different things because of how i think. I have calmed down when i hit 30's and because i have a 16 year old now but I can say that those songs truly allowed me to be me and I thank him for being bold and taking those steps back then to express himself so boldly. 2SEXY

I love Dr Mr Man Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I remember exactly where I was when I first heard Soft & Wet. I remember what I was wearing. I didn't know who he was then, but then I went to see the Rick James "Fire It Up" tour on May 3rd, 1980 at the Greenville Memorial Auditorium in South Carolina. Prince started. I forgot all about Rick (RIP). I've been in love ever since.

Even though I used to hear his music on the radio all the time this is the first pic of him I ever remember seeing:
After that I had to backtrack to pick up the other albums just to find out I knew most of his songs... but thought he was a woman.

God, how I miss vinyl!! Liner notes will never be the same on CD- not to mention no more posters! I totally identify with a lot of what was already said here. I'm absolutely a different person because of Prince. I became a hard-core fan right around 15 so he def. helped shape my views/attitudes re: sex, freedom, and religion and politics to some extent. I consider myself lucky to have grown up with the "old" Prince- before the JW's and giving up cursing and all that. Not saying I want him to go back to that, I'm just glad I was able to go along for the whole ride, growing up/maturing with him. Oh, and my 1986 HS yearbook caption holds a quote from Uptown.... Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...

okay I was just a toddler
when those records were out but I will reflect on how I felt when I discovered these albums a few years back Dirty Mind was the first one that I got into as a whole... "Head" has always been one of my favorite songs by Prince but when I heard the full album "Gotta Broken Heart Again" & "Sister" are my favs from there I got Controversy sometime in '04 I bought it, and 1999 the same day on CD instantly fell in love with Controversy my favs from there are (just like tru2u68) "Ronnie, Talk To Russia" & "Annie Christian" add "Sexuality" to that... the whole damn album is good not to mention that full length version of "Do Me, Baby" ::giggles like a schoolgirl:: Prince made my dick rock hard with that last minute or 2 I still to this day ponder the meaning behind "Annie Christian" I always gathered it was speaking in reference to the evils of the world I never quite grasped that "Annie Christian, anti-Christ until you're crucified I'll live my life in taxi-cabs" line always spooks me... but the beat is IRRESISTABLE he's just too damn deep for me sometimes For You (like Dirty Mind) was discovered while I was in college and it took a while for me to get into the whole album I had a burnt copy, but then I bought the CD while living in ATL... at a Circuit City my favs from here are the "For You" intro "In Love", "Crazy You", "Baby" & "My Love Is Forever" over the last year or so I've grown to love "I'm Yours" which I hardly played in the beginning Prince (1979) I knew I would like just by the tracklisting most of those songs I had heard on his Hits & B-Sides thingthing my favs from there are "Sexy Dancer" "When We're Dancing Close & Slow" and "It's Gonna Be Lonely" along with For You... I've had sex to this CD too many times to remember I wish Prince could have been the one to educate me on sex instead I had Too $hort & NWA [Edited 2/19/07 15:09pm] because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
