Justin Timberlake lyrics likely refer to Prince:

In 2006, Justin Timberlake co-writes, co produces and releases a song (co-writeen/produced by Timbaland) called 'SexyBack'.

Timberlake admits to other musical influences when writing and recording the song and other album cuts, and gives much praise to Prince at the time:

Subsequently, Prince jokingly asks at a performance - why is everyone saying Sexy's back? Sexy never left.

Then, a source close to Justin Timberlake states that his 'Give It To Me' lyrics on Timbaland's track:

"...have nothing to do with his infamous Super Bowl co-star [i.e. Janet Jackson] but he is responding to another pop artist who has seen career heights few other singers can boast"

JT himself said that sexy never left when asked about it on the Ellen Degeneres show. I don't even know if you could describe those song lyrics as a direct dig at Prince, seems a lot of people were saying the same thing around the time. Besides, JT has been seen at various Prince parties since so there is no ill will between them it would seem.

By the way, JT, how did you enjoy the Globe afterparty. You know those scary and mysterious things that Prince and his band brought out. Those are called musical instruments. Google the term if you have a second. I can wait..

Well maybe it is a diss and maybe it isn't. I find it all really unimportant.
It may give Timbaland and Co. some press but that's it.

Maybe if Prince does respond we may get a song about it all. I do not think
Prince really cares about it, he is already on to the next groove, song, plan,
show whatever. Maybe 20 years ago Prince may have responded to it all but I think he is over all that drama.

JT is young and will have to learn how to deal with the pressures of fame and finding if he has "staying power" and all that and I would hope he would be
as successful as Prince, but time will tell. The last few interviews I read
with JT seemed a bit immature and arrogant. And somewhat vulgar. So we will see.

The Grammy's are over and all this will die down. Until the "Britney show" starts up again and new dramas will start.

Maybe Prince will have a new CD come out before then I hope.

This is like a 7th grader trying to talk smack to a senior. Prince won't even pay attention to this mess. Is P the only person he wants to pick on? Why doesn't he try that on Eminem? He didn't respond when E was dissing them or when Dr. Dre was dissing Tim...what a bunch of clowns.

Justin's latest offering is a nice piece of enjoyable Prince-influenced fluff pop, but does he have the creativity to write lyrics that compare to the likes of "Adore," "If I Was Your Girlfriend,", "AnnaStesia", or "Sometimes It Snows in April"?

Even if Justin can produce songs that sound like Prince's works, he'll still be far less interesting than Prince, whose lyrical merging of sex and religion and bravado and introspection made him more fascinating than any other artist of my generation.

Prince basically invented hip-hop producing. Listen to his beats in the early 1980's and compare that to the simple bullshit drum loops of the time.

Prince was doing, drum loops, live drums, keyboard sounds, keyboard loops,etc.

TimbaBLAND is a one trick pony "flavor-of-the-day" producer, whose skittish drum beats have worn out their welcome. He will be nothing more than a footnote in the story of hip-hop history.
