Here are links to when it was originally discussed on the org on several threads back in 2006
http://www.prince.org/msg/8/208311 http://www.prince.org/msg/7/208596 http://www.prince.org/msg/7/209582?pr Justin Timberlake lyrics likely refer to Prince: [JT] Could you speak up and stop the mumbling I don't think you're getting clear. Sitting on the top it's hard to hear you from way up here. I saw you tryin to act cute on tv just let me clear the air. We missed you on the charts last week Damn that's right, you wasn't there. If sexy never left, then why's everybody on my shi it it? Don't hate on me just because you didn't come up with it. So if you see us in the club go on and walk the other way Cuz our run will never be over; not at least until we say In 2006, Justin Timberlake co-writes, co produces and releases a song (co-writeen/produced by Timbaland) called 'SexyBack'. Timberlake admits to other musical influences when writing and recording the song and other album cuts, and gives much praise to Prince at the time: http://www.prince.org/msg/8/202846 "He's definitely a huge influence," Timberlake said. "Prince, to me, is the ultimate artist. The thing that I love about Prince is he really makes his own rules, and I think that in creating something like music, you really shouldn't have any rules." Subsequently, Prince jokingly asks at a performance - why is everyone saying Sexy's back? Sexy never left. Then, a source close to Justin Timberlake states that his 'Give It To Me' lyrics on Timbaland's track: "...have nothing to do with his infamous Super Bowl co-star [i.e. Janet Jackson] but he is responding to another pop artist who has seen career heights few other singers can boast" http://en.wikipedia.org/w...e_It_to_Me . JT himself said that sexy never left when asked about it on the Ellen Degeneres show. I don't even know if you could describe those song lyrics as a direct dig at Prince, seems a lot of people were saying the same thing around the time. Besides, JT has been seen at various Prince parties since so there is no ill will between them it would seem.

By the way, JT, how did you enjoy the Globe afterparty. You know those scary and mysterious things that Prince and his band brought out. Those are called musical instruments. Google the term if you have a second. I can wait.. All good things they say never last...

Well maybe it is a diss and maybe it isn't. I find it all really unimportant.
It may give Timbaland and Co. some press but that's it. Maybe if Prince does respond we may get a song about it all. I do not think Prince really cares about it, he is already on to the next groove, song, plan, show whatever. Maybe 20 years ago Prince may have responded to it all but I think he is over all that drama. JT is young and will have to learn how to deal with the pressures of fame and finding if he has "staying power" and all that and I would hope he would be as successful as Prince, but time will tell. The last few interviews I read with JT seemed a bit immature and arrogant. And somewhat vulgar. So we will see. The Grammy's are over and all this will die down. Until the "Britney show" starts up again and new dramas will start. Maybe Prince will have a new CD come out before then I hope. [Edited 2/16/07 10:05am]

This is like a 7th grader trying to talk smack to a senior. Prince won't even pay attention to this mess. Is P the only person he wants to pick on? Why doesn't he try that on Eminem? He didn't respond when E was dissing them or when Dr. Dre was dissing Tim...what a bunch of clowns.
Hopfully someone will come back with a killer disc and kill the both of them like 50 did Ja...just out of respect for P. Prime aka The Kid

I swear, just about every song on Timberlake's album is about seeing some girl across the room of a club and wanting to get with her. Can you broaden your subject matter, Justin? PLEASE??? Justin's latest offering is a nice piece of enjoyable Prince-influenced fluff pop, but does he have the creativity to write lyrics that compare to the likes of "Adore," "If I Was Your Girlfriend,", "AnnaStesia", or "Sometimes It Snows in April"? Even if Justin can produce songs that sound like Prince's works, he'll still be far less interesting than Prince, whose lyrical merging of sex and religion and bravado and introspection made him more fascinating than any other artist of my generation. Doesn't seem like those lyrics are about them. Soul mate-One of two persons compatible with each other in disposition, point of view, or sensitivity.

What the fucking fuck????? JT... when you stop looking like you're about 4 years old then maybe I'll take what you have to say seriously... until then shut the fuck up and keep copying old Prince tunes cause that's the only way you'll have any success...
Timbaland and keep looking to Prince for inspiration... you are good but you're not there yet my love! "There comes a road in every man's journey that he's afraid to walk on his own.
I'm here to tell you, I'm at that road. And I would rather walk it with you than walk it alone".

Those lyrics are at best! It seems like JT has tried to create an image that really isn't him; it may fool young girls but that's about it. How many middle aged women run around saying JT is sexy!
The song has nothing to do with Prince.

TIMBALAND and all these other Rap Producers are a pimple of Prince's asshole!
Prince basically invented hip-hop producing. Listen to his beats in the early 1980's and compare that to the simple bullshit drum loops of the time. Prince was doing, drum loops, live drums, keyboard sounds, keyboard loops, etc.

This is just silly...
TimbaBLAND is a one trick pony "flavor-of-the-day" producer, whose skittish drum beats have worn out their welcome. He will be nothing more than a footnote in the story of hip-hop history. JT is, really; we all know what an orignator and a copycat are, and he is clearly in the latter. Silly.

Neither of Tims will ever have the respect that Prince gets. Justin is hiding behind his producer, & we all know Timbaland will never (could never) outshine Prince in music history

Haha - Timberlake dissing Prince in this childish game brought about in Rap circles most poplularised in the tupac biggie fued is the equivelent of Eminem dissing Chuck D.
One thing ill say is - where will Justin be in 20 years??? i know Prince will have a vast back catalogue to reflect upon and will probably be busting out some blues revival shit.
