Guitar - Love It or Hate It Blimey! Nothing like how I expected it to sound at all.
First impressions. . . When Doves Cry meets another song that I can't quite put my finger on. A 'surprise' certainly.

Pretty average, at best. And virtually no guitar in it. Those hoping for a rock song are gonna be very let down. No hard feelings.

Ah, the (distorted) vocal has a Girls & Boys feel to it.

I think it's going to be a grower.
A very perverse move from Prince here, defying the expectations of the song.

A very perverse move from Prince here, defying the expectations of the song. Maybe. And not unusual for him to release a song called Guitar that has next to no guitar in it. But it's just a monotonous groove and some pretty simple lyrics with two short guitar solos. Light, poppy, repetetive is how I'd describe it. No hard feelings.

Guitar for the suerbowl? yay or neigh?

Wow, this is really awful.

sounds like 'cream' meets 'do it all night' to me, only not quite as exciting as that description might imply. still, it's a pleasant enough little pop ditty.

Almost certainly neigh. Think Neon Telephone.

Well, I'm on my 6th listen and I bloody like it. It ain't the rock-out I expected but it's typical Prince and yet unique. Although I do want to keep singing 'How can you just leave me standing. . .' during the 'chorus'.
Quirky. | |

Almost certainly neigh. Think Neon Telephone. Not a bad description. I'm starting to wonder if he has some kind of mental block with recording an actual rock song in the studio. This sounds like something that would have been quaint on an outtakes album. No hard feelings.

On first listen, I think the production is too bland. And of course not AT ALL what we expected, but who are we to expect anything at all. Like Howard Stern said, you just comprehend the genius that Prince is (or something like that). I can see the backlash being immense.
Way too expensive, though. Too bad I'm such a fam.

Quirky. Quirky is exactly what it is. Even though it is a pop tune, it does not remind me of anything on 3121 or Musicology. Kinda experimental with the left right vocal shifts. Felt fresh to me more inspired. Is this about Mani? I like it. Later [Edited 2/2/07 16:37pm] Cause tomorrow is taking too long

I like it. Later I think the left/right channel voice has been done to death. Not sure that counts as experimental, just a tired attempt at being such. It's not an offensive song, that much is true, but it's also it's downfall. It's a quaint, safe, pop song that after you hear the first twenty seconds, you don't really need to hear anymore because it doesnt go anywhere else. The Fury studio version plays like Back in Black compared to Guitar. No hard feelings.

Y Prince, Y? We waited 4 this? I want my sleep back and my $1.99. Please change the name of this b4 the general public hears this. Lets just keep this song between u and me . 2 make matters worst, my itunes decided 2 play sign o the times afterwards, now i hate guitar. This would have been good 4 American Idol with lolita instead of satisfied. I hope this is just another glass cutter song. Just a little diddly 2 make us confused about his direction and then the album is totally n a different style. [Edited 2/2/07 16:44pm]

I think he could do things with it live where the guitar would be to the fore and it would go down a storm. If it's inserted between a couple of 'classic' P guitar-based songs during Superbowl, I think it could work.

Who else misses John Blackwell and Michael Bland? I agree 100% on the Johnnie and Michael B, but I get the feeling that this song is personal, the lyrics make it charming. Later Cause tomorrow is taking too long
