What made Prince's Super Bowl show so great? What do you think made his performance so great?
Comments from different newsgroups: -Prince ripped the house -Best Super Bowl half time show ever -Prince tore it up, etc, etc. I have to admit, after I saw the show I was a bit disappointed. Although I thought it was good, I guess I've seen him so good so many times I thought he wasn't as great as I've seen him before. So many other people have said he was absolutely great and I have to admit, after going back and watching it again, I had to agree. What do you think people were most impressed with?

A lot of times, when I tell people I've gone to see Prince play, or that I've bought a new Prince CD, they ask, "Is he still around?"
I think mainstream America was impressed that not only is he around, but he's still doin' his thing! When most people heard he was going to be playing, they expected him to be "coming out of retirement" or something. Instead, he kicked ass.... without his makeup running! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

His rendition of Purple Rain in the rain was legendary. Made me feel very somber and like I was back in 1985 all over. "I'M OK AS LONG AS YOU ARE HERE WITH ME!!! SEXUALITY IS ALL WE EVER NEED!!!!!"

Hmmmmm....playing in the center of a football field during the freakin superbowl halftime show with a synchoized kick-ass marching band while at the same time an incredible fireworks display is going on and he's tearing up purple rain (in the rain!!) on the guitar, while the whole stadium crowd is singing along.... .....happens everyday [Edited 2/15/07 21:25pm] [Edited 2/15/07 21:27pm]

I quiver inside like I am going 2 cry after he ends the song "I gotta another confession my friend, I Ai'nt No Fool, and then Purple Rain Starts playing and the fireworks are shooting off the bowl in perfect timing. It was absolutely beautiful! The rain made Prince more Real, and the fact that he performed so great in the rain was Fabulous, and his guitar playing was top knotch!!! >>> We ALL can BE very PROUD of OUR Man! Even though he has nothing 2 prove. I think This Performance put the Nail in the Coffin of disbelief. A lot of people got 2 C what we have known all along! KEEP ROCKING THAT GUITAR PRINCE!

The SuperBowl Performance was his BEST TV performance!! The more you watch it, the more you realize that!
Perfect song selection for the masses. AMAZING Idea for the FAMU Band to play! You can even see Prince got a chill from Horns. You can tell he was feelin' it so much he forgot to bring it home with a final little ending solo on PR. FAMU was just bringing it. The whole performance was perfect! 1) Guitar Solos!!! Guitar Solos!!! Guitar Solos!!! 2) I love the middle when FAMU took over for a few seconds, it felt like Party Man. 3) The Rain, which handicapped him, well could have, but brought the biggest edge to the performance! For me the rain now is like the best part, for him to bring it like that in a storm? wow!! Shit the Football Players were fumbling and turning the ball over. Prince didnt fumble 4) He was LIVE!!! His voice sounded amazing, so relaxed.. even though it was in the middle of a rain storm! 5) He hit every Era for everyone! a) He hit the Purple Rain Crowd b) He hit the Motown/1960's Crowd with Proud Mary c) He hit the Classic Rock with Watch Tower d) He hit the 1990's with The Best e) He had the FAMU Playing which was the Partman/Batman-ish Prince f) He had the old school sexual Prince with the Curtain g) He brought it home with Purple Rain, The best Encore you can ever have, everyone leaves happy [Edited 2/16/07 7:40am]

If you watch close you'll see him signal the band to close it out early for that reason I'm sure. Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"

Yeah exactly..plus he showed incredible charisma People are totally dumbed down on what a rock star is two words...STAR POWER Couldn't have said it better. Maybe his charisma is the very thing that casts a spell over me when I watch him perform... well, that could be one thing, but I'm sure there are many contributing factors to why i can't take my eyes off him once he's on stage. Before him, though, I wasn't really crazy about electric guitar and he practically turns it into a work of art. Who can do that anymore? But the key to his success at the show has to be the combo of Purple Rain and his lengthy guitar solo to accompany it. Nothing else before doesn't really seem to matter to me, but then he starts Purple Rain and I'm officially hooked. And just maybe that reminds me of the first time I saw him perform, doing the title song at the end of "Purple Rain"... oh man... that right there is a little slice of heaven. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

That I was able to record it and watch it whenever I want to..
and that it was performed in the rain made it even more spectacular
