Technically, you are correct... it's no different than when Prince has written a song and then the whole band performs on it for the recording. Power Fantastic was a similar instance, written by W&L then performed live by the band. Actually, if memory serves, Mountains was one of the tracks that W&L lead the recording of at a studio in Britain with the Revolution but without Prince (as he was dealing with UTCM), and then he joined in at a later date to finish it.

Maybe Wendy and Lisa did write the basic track, but the end result sounds more raw and edgy then anything on a Wendy and Lisa record (my main complaint about them: good musicians, good singer-songwriters, but they sound often to bland and safe on their own records). That last aspect shows Prince recording ethics. Next to that the horn parts are obviously a result of the input off Eric Leeds and Matt Blistan. And dont forget those drums still sound very Bobby Z-ish. To conclude, Wendy and Lisa might have written this song, the final result is a song by Prince AND the Revolution. Wow you break it down very well dude and now I understand more about how much Wendy and Lisa, and also the band contributed to that song. I knew that they create the basic idea of the song but someone also said that Prince was responsible for the drumming at the intro so thanks for the good post. [Edited 2/15/07 14:57pm]
