No, I am not very young. eek I have been a fan for years, and just forgot that Huntsberry was Chicks last name. Now don't you think that was just a bit of a assumption?? After I posted that, I realized that it was Chick , and thought to myself I should go post that I remembered and just forgot before some ignorant ass would make a nasty comment. I guess I was too late..... wink So typical....

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound nasty or in any way offensive, hence the lol. I'm not one of the people who use these forums just to pick on people. Chick was just such a bigger than life figure back in the day, it seemed impossible not to know him.

Calling me an ignorant ass however is very offensive.

Hey chill guys, I feel somehow responsible here. I should have referred to him by his full name and none of this would've happened.

Havén´t heard the unreleased version. neutral It´s a great song.
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

One of my favorite lyrics is in this song... " Last night a stranger took my picture and he asked if I'd buy it and I said I guess I don't know how".
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

I find the lyrics to the song a little puzzling...It seems to be a very bitter song. Can any resident expert elucidate?

It's an old story if you dig around.

Two friends stuck in the snow: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. This incident led to their dismissal from The Time.

Cocaine becomes charmin', But U talk about things U don't know
I know, no matter how pleasant your past was
Green and white return 2 blue
U're happy as long as your last buzz
And then U think U want something new,: The late Big Chick (his bodyguard) sold his "story" about Prince to a tabloid (u talk about things u don't know), probably for drug money, as he was addicted to the white stuff. Green being money, white being cocaine, blue being the result. Last buzz = drugs.

The reference to selling pictures for chump change is also a reference to Big Chick.

Steve: His former manager, the late Steve Fargnoli, answering questions about why Around The World In A Day was the exactly opposite of anything prior; what the public thought to the funkless music.

When another musician U hired: Reference to Wendy Melvoin coming into the group and Dez leaving.

Oooh I love this song! It's like his heart was on his sleeve...

"Prince Old Friends 4 Sale lyrics"

The sun set in the west this mornin'
4 I know, I know L.A. is callin'
Bad news, Steve said, and people are talkin'
They say your kingdom is fallin', yeah
They say U lost your fire
When another musician U hired
Little do they know, U wouldn't have passed go
Unless they could take U higher, yeah

The sun set in my heart this afternoon
4 2 friends of mine got stuck in the snow
In Uptown when winter's alarmin', oh
Cocaine becomes charmin'
But U talk about things U don't know 'bout
I know, no matter how pleasant your past was
Green and white return 2 blue
U're happy as long as your last buzz
And then U think U want something new, yeah

The sun, the sun set in my mind this evening
4 someone who said they would die 4 me
Sold some, they sold some more pictures and all my little memories
Chump change is 2 unravel the mystery, ah ha
But life is no fun, life ain't no fun without fantasy
Some things are better left unsaid
And some people are better left untrusted
Maybe, maybe, maybe it'll all make sense when I'm dead
When I'm dead

Old friends 4 sale
Get'em while the gettin' is hot
Watch out, they'll kiss U until they get what U got
And they'll show U the friends that they're not
Old friends 4 sale

Actually, this line has been long debated...The more likely interpretation is Morris Day and Vanity's cocaine abuse...Interesting nonetheless...

Vanity and Morris Day were the ones strung out on drugs during the tours, not Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The first version is basically about all the people who were doing narcotics in his closer circle (including his bodyguard), he mentioned that in the rolling stone 1985 interview.

Thank you.

I've thought about it for a long time and I wondered if Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were on the snow, how could they have done all they did for Janet? It didn't seem plausible.

Morris, we know had his problems. Chick admitted to his drug use. I won't even try to speculate about the others in that crew.

All that is safe to say is that "Cocaine is a helluva drug" and that it was rampant among musicians who had to stay up late and play crazy gigs throughout the U.S. The 80's may have been the Cocaine Heyday, breaking up bands all ovah da place.
