Why can't Prince get the same amount of airplay as Whitney Houston? People like to say that older artists don't get airplay simply because they are "old" but that is simply not true. Considering that Prince and Whitney Houston both had their biggest hits in the 1980s and continued on through the 1990s, Prince did not get near the radio airplay in the 1990s that Whitney Houston did.
I hear she's going to have a new album out soon and I'm sure they will play the living hell out of it. So what's the deal? Why the hell won't they give Prince lots of airplay like they do her? Is she supposed to be more talented or make better music than him? What's their problem? Do you guys think she has even 1/16th the talent as Prince? Andy is a four letter word.

Whitney never wrote "Slave" on her face...
she did write "Now accepting applications" under her nose though.

Whitney is easier to put in a box. R&B singer.
Whereas, as much as people on this site say how Prince is trying to hard to be mainstream, he's still 100 time more ecceletic than most popular artists. When I heard Black Sweat on the radio for the first time, the DJs response to it was "Wow, that was different...Count on Prince to always be unique...I think I like it, but the jury's still out". Prince is just too 'different' for R&B radio unless he puts out a 'typical ballad' ala Call My Name. But he's too funky for rock radio and too old for pop radio. Man can't win! Stupid mass media!! You know that better than anybody vainandy Shhhhh.....these folks ain't supposed to know that over on this side. It's a serious thread about why Prince didn't get as much radio airplay in the 1990s and present day as other artists that had hits in his era and continued. I could have used anyone else's name that had hits in the 1980s and continued on into the 1990s such as Michael Bolton. However, considering that a lot of people are going to shit on anyone when compared to Prince, I figured it would be fun to use her name instead. . . Mwwhahahaa!! No really, I guess I'd better give my answer to the thread then. See, Prince continued on making funk in the 1990s and present day and the radio just refuses to play funk or anything else hard and uptempo. Folks like Michael Bolton and of course, Shi...uh...Whitney Houston, made weak ass adult contemporary bullshit. Adult contemporary will always be in style so radio knows that people have boring enough taste these days to buy it and make it a hit. Only cool people are going to buy funk so you know that's not going to be a hit. You got me all wrong though. I have no evil intentions in mind concerning Shi...uh...Whitney. By the way, here comes Whitney in a pair of jeans. Come here boys..... . . [Edited 2/14/07 20:16pm] Andy is a four letter word.
