Got a questionnaire for ya about the original script for Purple Rain I've heard there was a version of the movie script floating around that featured certain scenes that didn't make it to the final, theatre-released cut. From what I understand it featured Francis L. actually dying, the Kid raping Apples, and if not actually having sex with his own mother, heavily suggesting that it happens, among other things. I seem to remember seeing a thread or two here about it, but I'm not sure if that's just my mind inventing things or not. I remember a lot of things that don't happen.
So my questions are: Is that original script legitimate, and has this been confirmed? By who? Why were the scenes cut from the script? Was any of that original piece actually shot, or did it only stay on the page? Would you prefer Purple Rain as we know it now, or with the nastier bits left in? Why? Do you think that would've improved the movie, or taken away from it? Attracted or repelled audiences? If a director's cut was released with said scenes left in, would you buy it? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Some parts of the original script scared me. I don't think it would have been nearly as well received as the final cut. The original script, with all of the added violence, would have taken away from the music, imo. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

I think, had Purple Rain been done the way it was apparently originally intended, Prince's reputation among the general public as a bonafide fucked up, crazy person would have been solidified. Especially given that it's meant to be loosely based on his life. It'd be damn hard to forget a literal motherfucker. I do wonder -was that part done to add to the dirty image that the song Sister helped establish, and by that I mean, just for shock value. Or, like some people believe about the song, had edges of fact in it? [Edited 2/11/07 2:06am] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
