having a really good stylist still don't compensate for the fact that you're putting harsh chemicals in your hair in order to keep it straight.

This is the same for perming of straight hair. I only permed mine twice, back in the 80's, and a whole load fell out the second time. Scary.

No but weekly moisturizing conditioning treatments, monthly protein treatments and keeping the ends clipped WILL keep your hair healthy, no matter what you do to it!

Believe me...I know! wink

Prince still has great hair, especially for a black man who´s been straightening his hair for more than thirty years.
Lovemachine may be partly right, there were a couple of pictures from the early 90s where he had thinning hair, and the first speculations about him balding were during that mini Gold Experience tour in 95 when people could see his supposedly bald spot from the balcony during a show. The video for Same December also contributed to these speculations because some people thought the scene where you can see Prince with his head on the table was a bit manipulated, i.e. there are two slightly different videos.
There was also this black and white photo from the very early 90´s where he looked as if his hairline had receded dramatically ( with him and the band ) and it looked perfectly full and healthy again after a short while.
Considering the massive amount of stress he´s been through in the 90s I´m quite surprised that he´s got any hair left at all...
The 1999 calendar has one picture with him sporting that crazy hairdo withthe braids and it´s obvious that he´s still got a lot of healthy hair.Maybe he got a very good transplant, which is perfectly fine as far as I´m concerned..why not.. ?
It´s not different from going to a good dentist and having your teeth done..if your wallet allows it, it´s cool.
I´ve always admired Prince for living a clean live and his work ethic and discipline, his healthy eating habits and lifestyle and his healthy hair and crazy hairdos...let a man be a man , if he´s had a transplant , he still looks terrific, and if not, more props to him.
This being said, I think the best thing for his hair would be a more natural look from now on, for instance something like that cool afro during the Hong Kong phase in 2003..that looked nice. His processed hair looks a bit dated now and is not very healthy...aux natural is healthier and more fashionable these days.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

god,
his hair looked just fine. the last thing i expected was people saying that he is balding. i thought that him taking that rag off in the pouring rain would have confirmed this. i thought it looked great , reminded me of under the cherry moon. it also reminded me of a mad genius musician giving a mad genius performance. like mozart, little richard, james brown. beautiful!

I would like to see Prince go natural too. For a minute, I thought he was going to go the natural route when I saw him sportin' the fro in the Musicology video. I am not sure what happened, but he we went back to straightening his hair.

I gave up the creamy crack(relaxer) back in 2004 and my hair thanks me everyday for doing so. lol

I just couldn't imagine myself with no relaxer for like 4 years. I'd die. I'd up and die. And I hope Prince doesn't go the natural route. His look in the musicology video kinda turned me off. He reminded me of one of those poodles you see in the dog shows. A walking Q-Tip.

I went natural for about 8 years. Then started getting it pressed. Just started getting it permed again. I have nothing against going natural except well for me it just wasn't working out:

1) I got tired of braids
2) I got tired of twists
3) I got tired of the 'fro

and

4) I live in DC and you would not believe how many salon stylists do not know how to cut virgin hair without it making me look like someone took a weed-wacker to my head. And babers tend to make it look too man-ish for me.

So back to to the "creamy crack" I went and got it cut in a really short pixie cut. I love it. smile

Simple as this, Prince has never been out the public eye long enough to get plugs as it takes about 6-12 months for them to take effect and they look like patches of misplace hair. You also have to cut hair from donor areas on your scalp and we all know as vain as Prince is he's not doing that. If he was going bald he would just get a wig like Michael Jackson.

That's bad see, cuz the average head has about 100,000-150,000. That's about what he was working with when he had his Glam Slam hair right; He was around 133,000 then. This is true. It also depends on the type of chemical that you put on it. I am 31 and have had my hair relaxed since I was about 13. My hair has been damgaged several times by TERRIBLE stylists. Both times they used relaxers that were too strong for my hair texture and my hair was damaged. I finally got an EXCELLENT stylist who switched me to a texturizer. She's a stylist and educator, so I trust her opinion. She's expensive, but worth every penny. The texturizer straightens my hair, but it allows the hair to retain more of its natural texture so I can wear curlier, more natural styles too - like Prince during Musicology.

I've been texturizing every two months for five years. I get washed and deep conditioned every two weeks. My hair is longer and healthier than it has ever been. Unfortunately, people often think it is a weave. rolleyes (Don't get me started on that and the myths about black hair.)

So given Prince's hair texture, he probably has a texturizer, which is milder and less damaging to the hair. He also can afford the BEST products in the world. This would explain why he has managed to keep his hair, which looks very real to me. It looked very nice at 3121. He came to our table several times and I noticed how nice it looked.

I go to the hair stylist tomorrow, so I will ask her what she thinks. She already said that MJ has a hair transplant. lol

Actually, this is hardly true. As a nappy head living in D.C., I found countless salons that specialize in natural haircare. There are literally 100's of beauty salon spots that care for natural hair. Also, wearing a natural is not as taboo as it is in the South and other areas of the country. It's not uncommon to see many black men rocking afros and locks, and certainly becoming more common to see beautiful black women--like myself--sporting the naps!

Also, do we know for sure that P relaxes? Sometimes it looks as if he actually has his hair pressed because even after it is straightened, it doesn't look completely straight, or "bone straight." I thought for a time that he has it pressed. He has extremely thick hair as well, so that makes a difference, I'm sure...

Prince may have sported a "toupee" from the Hair Club for Men while his "implants" were growing. They look natural and almost undetectible (if maintained)!! I sported one last year and was about to get implants but that
toupee is time consuming to style and costly. Prince could afford a stylist to
style his hair everyday!!!

Glad you've had that experience but, there are maybe 5 well known natural haircare salons in DC. Not MD or VA but in the District of Columbia. And not all of them know how to CUT natural hair. They lock, braid or twist. And, I was so not trying to travel to east ja-blip to get a decent feminine 'fro cut. For the most part women here perm, weave, or braid. lol Hell, you can't even find that many that can even press hair.

But back to P. I think he was pressing his hair for a bit.
