To make it as cool as possible, what would you add/remove? New track sequence?? How could you improve TRC using other songs?

The Rainbow Children was an absolute refreshing change from his plastic music in my opinion. It was totally a releif to hear it for the first time, but I winced a bit at hearing the narration.

Upon a few plays, I totally couldn't get past the narration.


Now I just cant' listen to the album. Musicology and 3121 are far easier to listen to, and his 80's and early 90's output far more enjoyable.

I am pretty surprised that he dropped the entire style of music from that record. Normally he carries a musical style for several albums. Unless those happened to be Xpectation and NEWS. But I am pretty shockes that he did not move forward with the music . TRC seems like an odd album plunked down in the middle of medicore albums.

I also think for the most part it was a very mature album and the music on it is great. The narration makes it hard to listen too, but I think most would agree that it was outstanding in terms of song quality.

One thing I would change is the first third/half of the album, I feel it gets off to a real slow start. To contradict that, I think Digital Garden/Everywhere/Sensual Everafter is one of the strongest parts of the album, but I sometimes find the title track, Muse 2 The Pharoah and Mellow utterly tedious, I think a more upbeat track upfront would help the pacing here.

An album that really could've been better is 3121.
Replace the Tamar R&B shit by some TSH and TCI style songs and it would've been alot better.

Xpectation and NEWS definately follow in the footsteps of The Rainbow Children. TRC was the album that got him back to using real instruments as the basis for an entire album (after years of Emancipation/NPS/Rave type production). Since then, he's really been pushing the whole "real music by real musicians" theme.

I don't see it as an odd album plunked down in the middle of medicore albums, I see it as the beginning steps towards the great "comeback" he's had the last few years. Not so much that the album was popular, but he seemed to get his head back on straight with this album and hasn't looked back since. Just my opinion, of course.
