Oh, no, Grohl says he had to go see it on youtube. Hope he does not get sued by Prince's lawyers. Best was the best part of his performance for me.

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Dave Grohl is one of the nicest guys of rock! I've always liked the guy! Also knew he was a Prince-fan, their 'Darling Nikki'-cover at concerts always rocked!

After an electric cable was accidentally severed moments before the show, a stage hand channeled a scene straight out of Back to the Future by manually inserting the exposed copper wires into an outlet and holding them in place for the duration of the nearly 12-minute show. It's a wonder he wasn't injured, which is why Mischer says he wants to find out the guy's identity, because "I think I should give him a medal."

eek So, this actually confirms Bart van Hemelen's rumoured presence at the Superbowl performance... wink

another small link to Prince, one of the original members of the Foo Fighters, Pat Smear, was in the Raspberry Beret video. He's got long hair and wearing all white, sitting down in the background, you'll recognize his smile.

Another small link is that the Foos also covered Vanity 's "Drive Me Wild" as a b-side!

I have never ever seen him with a Stratocaster before. Always the Hofner Tele copy or one of his weird "symbol" guitars. Can you imagine a club gig with Prince, a Strat and a Marshall?

Actually, I can, as I've seen him in a club with a Strat and a Marshall!

The Foo Fighters came to Iceland last year and held a concert with Queens of the Stone Age. My son, 15, loves Nirvana and also, of course, the Foo Fighters. I took him to the concert and it we had a great time, the FF were great! The next day my son was downtown, saw Dave Grohland and followed him. Dave noticed him and just stopped and started talking to him. My son was wearing a Nirvana T-shirt and Dave said ,,what a great T-shirt you're wearing." Then they talked for some time about the concert and stuff. Dave was so nice and polite to my kid and he gave him his time and my son just experienced a truly special moment. I really respect Dave for this and I believe he is trully a nice person! Just wanted to share this story:)

That's what I thought. Did they ALSO cover "Darling Nikki"? Someone recently said I was wrong about the Vanity 6 cover.

Both of the songs were Foo B-Sides.

Prince's performance at the super bowl was the best thing I have ever seen and heard. It was not just clean. It was impassioned and full of huge surprises. My mind was truly blown away. I will be honest with you. I was worried. I did not know what he might do. I did not know what might go wrong. I was a bit anxious. But he completely turned my concerns on their ear. It was nothing like what I expected. I am so happy for him. The Foo Fighters cover and "All Along The Watchtower" were huge surprises! And I loved the silhouette thing. The whole thing was subdued and fired up at the same time. It will stick with me forever.

spit Oh, c'mon! That's FUNNY! I'd be confused if I were them too!

P made some POSITIVE statements about the Foos back in the days of the Love41Another site, so it probably is a matter of the now-JW Prince not really caring for one of his "nasty" songs being brought back into plain view for a new generation. Who knows what else may have been said to EW? Journalists do have a tendency to only print the more incendiary quotes.

This recently appeared on RollingStone.com...

According to Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, his band has been bested by Prince. His Purpleness played Foo Fighters’ hit “Best of You” at the Super Bowl half-time show, and though it wasn’t what we would call the highlight of Prince’s performance (that would be “Purple Rain”) Hawkins has decided it trumps the original. “Dude, I have no idea why he did it, but I’d love to find out,” the drummer reportedly said. “I mean…it was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs — and actually doing it better than we did.”

We know the Foo Fighters’ thing is to be this gang of preternaturally affable dudes who happen to be stadium rock stars, but we’re not sure Hawkins should be so humble. Prince is a genius, but did The Purple One take one of the Foo Fighters biggest hits and transform it — in one nationally televised, rain-soaked moment — into a magnificent, Princified opus?

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but I heard on the radio this morning the Foo Fighters will be opening for The Police and Metallica this year.

I'm not big into the Foos but I have to give them respect for those gigs.
