Why Universal is Retarded:

Do a google search with the word download and eventually you are going to find it. Someone else is just going to re-up it. and there isn't a damn thing Prince or Universal can do about it.

It's a lose/lose situation for all parties involved.

There you go. Anyone defending this kind of control madness must realize that Prince is only tarnishing himself with this kind of action.

You know, this goes beyond Prince. It's the shooting themselves in the foot syndrome. Viacom/Universal aren't controlling jack shit by removing this and all licensed properties..

All they are doing is opening the door for another "Youtube" that streams entertainment media. How is that productive? This is what they are actually spending money on? This is the big plan to stop it? You can go to Isohunt or Mininova. Do you want to make these sites more popular? That's whats happening in effect.

This is the biggest shooting of the foot I have seen regarding entertainment media promotion. And there really is no common sense to this.

Let me get this straight: You are going to remove all content so someone can get it elsewhere?

Is prince/npg or universal owner of the coyright in this recorded live performance?

I really dont think so.

Where his image is concerned, he can do pretty much whatever he wants in regard to how it is used and viewed. It's called Intellectual Copyright

That said, there is the Fair Use Law that allows limited use of copyrighted material without requiring permission from the rights holders.

I still think it's simply an overly-zealous legal dept trying to make it look like they're worth their money - I'm sure Prince has better things to do than hunt the 'net looking for video clips to pounce on.

Damn lawyers! mad

He/they could try and claim youtube is profiting off his image, but that's a harder case to make than when he owns the copyright of this film, which I doubt he or universal does. When you own the copyright you can prohibit any publication on youtube, for profit or not. That said, next to all along the watchtower he did play purple rain and that song is therefore also recorded and published on youtube. Was it on the recording on youtube?

Update: All someone has to do is put "Prince Superbowl Halftime show torrent"

What the hell is the point? They can't stand people are watching it for free?
Get over it.

the quality of the bit torrent is damn good !! and its HD format too
i have converted it to PDA format which can play on smartphones pda and other handhelds and takes only 30MB

He's a control freak in a good way. He doesnt take bullshit, and he wont let anyone view his music for free, or where credit is deserve, I think its a good thing, especially since artist are ripped off so much!

THAT'S FOOLISH

He isnt "ripped off". He is WASTING his money on lawyers who write stupid cease and desist letters for 600 bucks an hour, while the recording is already ALL OVER THE NET. And he is WASTING the new fans he got / can get from this performance by treating them as "thieves" for downloading a performance the entire world has already seen and for which he has already been paid big bucks.

Ask yourself, what GOOD can these actions POSSIBLY do him?

Okay, I do agree with you from that standpoint, but everyone on here knows that Prince is controlling over his music, and thats just the way that he is. But I do agree to disagree with you, it varies with ever artist, and thats just the way that he is, no if's and's or but's!

His or theirs or whoevers lawyers should be sending bills for the DEALS they make with youtube.

Not for pointlessly trying to stop them.

THAT would be SMART.

Oh the irony. On the Twinz MySpace page they did an embed of the pre-Superbowl press conference performance from YouTube, which is now "no longer available".
