What was your favorite Prince interview?

The Chris Rock one inspired this question.

It was almost the last time Prince did a real interview where he didn't talk in riddles and "Purple Kool-AId" speech.

i really dig the mojo 1986 interview after the birthday concert.

prince was real open, down to earth, and nice. none of that speaking in circles shit he does when hes uncomfortable, lol

the dj tho, wasnt a good interview i think

i think the most vulnerable prince moment captured happened on here when he was talking about the hotel beds are hard and he wishes he could stay on somebodies couch or somethin'

That's a great interview! Chris got him to open up and laugh a little. he even got him to talk about MJ.

I'd say another good one is the press conference from 2000. He was really sharing his opinions in that one.

(I would say Oprah, but, well, I don't know...)

Oprah: So does it bother you if people think you're strange or gay?

Prince: Hey, (laughing like a mean bitch) whatever floats the boat.

I may be in the minority here, but I hate Prince interviews. The always sound like bizaar cultish New Power talking points on perpetual repeat.

There have been a few times where he talks about his music (Guitar magazine and an interview in Vibe once) where he reveals a little bit about his craft or intentions behind a song--these were cool. But in large part, a Prince interview is an advertisement more so than a documentary.

I feel like I learn something new about him with every interview but the BET 90min special is my favorite. He was relaxed, funny, honest, and completely fascinating....I sometimes wonder if I would be able to interview him without losing my composure so anybody who pulls it off that's a good interview...No I'm not a journalist thank God

Yeah, I agree.

I don't think he's not a good verbal communicator at all.

His "floaty words" work only in song.

To a degree I agree with you. The ones he did later on he was asked the same ass questions why the name change, whats your problem with warner bros, what do you think about todays artist. Please interviewers out there "do not ask these questions already, you're beating a dead horse already"

Don't be dissin on Mojo, you gotta understand, the interview was a total suprise to Mojo, he didn't know Prince was gonna call, sooooo he was probably a little shocked and wasn't prepared, but it was still an amazing interview and Mojo is STILL the MAN

Every time Mayte opened her mouth to talk, his body language looked nervous as hell. It looked like he kept looking over at her hoping she would correctly recite the lines she had rehearsed.

This one? Twas Neil Karlen who did that joint. cool Cool interview though. I remember seeing him talk about it later on a documentary saying that Prince had ran thru a practice with "some group" he was working with. They got into his Dad's car, and P just put his head on the steering wheel and started mumbling "I can't do this anymore", and he though he lost his "scoop". But then they got to talking and Prince started driving him around and showing the northside where he grew up. Pretty cool.

I'm not too keen on his interviews. Most of the ones I've found aren't the standard Q/A type of interviews, they're just written in narrative form.

But once, I did a search for interviews and for a short time, YouTube had a rare one done by an Australian morning show. It was just incredible, really seeing the guy behind the music. He seemed so nervous under the light of the camera in the first half of the interview, but in the second half, which was one on one, he just seemed so downbeat, down to earth and actually very quiet.

Prince the musician and Prince the person seem to be two completely different people, which really adds to the enigma he is.

Note: The video was taken off later that day, but I was glad I got to see it that one time. It really showed me what Prince was like and I got a glimpse of him that I've never seen before and probably never will again.

In Print: The Q Magazine article, cause it's 'weirdish Prince' at his best!

TV: The Beautiful Strange interview with Mel B. cause he seemed like he was having alot of fun just hanging with her. Plus she was loopy enough to make it more interesting than the standard "So, you play how many instruments..." type music interviews
If you will, so will I
