I have to say I am the first to get pissed when someone disses my man. Like the negative comments on CNN. Most of the non believers will never see the light so why do we bother? His music and talent speak for themselves. I wonder if he appreciates the way we've got his back? or is he like.. "y'all go on talkin while I cash my check."

It's natural to defend what you care about, I've been defending Prince for over 20 years and have given up some folks who had negative things to sasy about him, and to this day I still don't regret it, I don't have to hear it and I won't!

One of my students said that the performance "sucked" & that she was "so disappointed" and that it was "the worst they had in years". She even said that he wasn't playing his own guitar. I know everyone is entitled to her own opinion, but I was blown away!!
I know what U mean- I wanted to argue with her, but I just said that was her opinion- to which I got a snotty, "yeah, it is".

Is this world, there are the "smart ones" (the ones who think that Prince is one of the best artists of our time) and the "stupid ones" (the ones who say that Prince sucks), it's very simple

It's according to who it is. If someone like Rick James talks about Prince, I'm cool with it. Rick was a fellow funkateer and had his own personal reasons for not liking Prince. Actually, it was kinda fun listening to Rick rant on about Prince. I'm fine with any of the fellow funkateers talking about Prince because usually it's for musical reasons and they are musicians themselves.

Now when shit hop artists talk about Prince, that's another story. Don't talk about someone when you can't play a damn instrument yourself and don't even deserve to be a star. It doesn't really piss me off though because I see them as the low life trash of the earth and their opinion means absolutely nothing to me. Their ignorance is really kinda humorous.

As for defending Prince with people in the general public in everyday life, I rare do that. If someone that likes funk but doesn't like Prince, I may ask them why and usually they just don't like his music, which is fine. If people that likes shit hop doesn't like Prince, I usually make one shitty insulting comment towards their taste and leave it at that because it would serve no purpose to argue with someone who has no taste anyway.

As for anyone on any end of the spectrum using personal words like "He's gay". I usually say something like "I certainly hope so because it would be a damn shame if he was straight". That usually pisses them off because they can't stand for someone to take the word gay as a compliment and even have the guts to turn the word straight around into an insult. That's not really defending Prince though. That's defending myself because I hate homophobic people and get pleasure out of pissing them off.
