Oh, my real answer is;

I DETEST remixed versions of very good first tapings. Like Old Friends 4 Sale. I can understand that maybe the first version feels really personal to him, but the new lyrics SUCK big time. And the deliverance of the lyrics are strangled and over conceived. ZERO STARS for Prince re-recordings

And I totally agree with what you say. 'Old Friends 4 Sale' should NOT have been tampered with.

OF4S was RAPED!!! Nothing beats the original version. That song is sad as hell too. Thinking back to big Chick and the Old School Crew. cry But the WB version is pooptoast

Prince should be ashamed of himself for changing the lyrics to one of his most profound works. disbelief

That's my twocents

well i dunno about "the P", sounds dreadful from its general reputation... but "the grand progression" is wonderful!! i don't understand this dissing of such a gorgeous, weird little prince classic. feltbluish, i'm sorry but: stop dissing it, it's great.

and this surge of bad feeling for "all my dreams" which seems to be growing here on the org... WHAAAT!!

"all my dreams" is SUPERB. rilly.

Moonbeam Levels, Big Tall Wall, both verry overrated although ML i might like better if the production was cleaner.. I think "I hear your voice" is a cool haunting song & Allegiance isn't too bad either, these are seldom talked about trax.

All the songs from the I'll Do Anything soundtrack were quite rightly left in the vault.

I think all the replies to this topic show how one person can love a song and another person can't stand it...most of the vault stuff has been listenable except one...WOW...This song is dreadful! I couldn't even listen to it in one sitting...Electric Intercourse, Player, God is Alive-all those songs jam...

"I simply cannot believe that people are baggin on Cookie Jar. That shit is too funky! Sounds like Prince created it in a haunted house. What a way to convert the original song into a song about God."

EXACTLY, supa!! dang, yer all over my ass with the lingering porno "johnny wad" note a la Feel U Up...and I was waiting for you to defend Cookie Jar already. One of the spookiest/funkiest things IN the vault, if you ask me...

I like 'God is Alive'. I think most of the downloads from 2001 are just ok.

I just didn't think that God is Alive lived up to my expectations. We heard about that track for years before it finally circulated. I agree that the downloads have all been substandard, B-sides at best. I can't see the excitment over the song High. I think it's just silly. I'd be embarassed if he tried to pass that as a single.

Schoolyard, Cookie Jar, and Soul Psychedelicide really sucked in my opinion. Also, everyone used to think The Grand Progression was one of the best ballads ever, but I thought the production in that song screwed it up, and thus lost it's emotional appeal. And I know people would think I'm crazy, but Electric Intercourse was weak...

I love Electric Intercourse and the Grand Progression. In fact, it's still my favorite song.
I can't see going on about the production when they were both just demos.

I really like The Grand Progression, but I can see how the quality would turn people off. I'd love to hear a completed studio version of Electric Intercourse.
