Best tour, U tell me?

What is the best tour, in your opinion, that Prince has done.

I have been told that Musicology was superb but it never made it to the UK. Did i miss out on the best tour? Please let me know.

Lovesexy... I wish my 'prude'-ent family would have let me go see this when it visted my shores.

Of the ones I've seen - Gold.

Oh, and the One Nite Alone at Hammersmith - but only for Family Name and Whole Lotta Love.

Did you miss out on the best tour?

Yes, you did: the CONTROVERSY tour !
Certainly not the Musicology tour (although the two Fillmore try-out gigs are brilliant)

for me it was the parade tour.

No theatrics, No special effects, No 'behind' story/meaning just good fun/funk.

I loved sign of the times and lovesexy to, but those were better seen afterwards on tv or on screen or listned to on tape.
But I must say that the european part of ONA came very close.

I dunno about best but his brief european tour in early '95 gets overlooked.
A lot of folk hated the concerts 'cos he was playing material (TGE) that hadn't been heard.
I was delighted. If you wanna hear the old stuff, stay home and play the albums.
It was one funky assed show. High energy and rocking. biggrin

purple rain tour was great, if not a little over-choreographed (not that i minded at the time!)

ONA tour was fantastic, because it felt like prince doing whatever the hell he felt like on stage, yet it was still tight.

musicology was wonderful - i felt like it was more of a party than a concert at times, and it was the cheeriest i'd seen prince onstage in years.

i wish i'd seen the lovesexy tour...i'm sure i would think it was among his very best. i've seen it on video of course, but it's not the same.

Good show

Saw it at Wembley 95. No old tunes just GOLD. I had a CD, before the show, entitled "The Live Experience" which has The Jam, The Ride, Shhhhh and more so i kinda new some of the material he was gonna do.

I think the only oldies he played were I Love U In Me and Pink Cashmere. The rest was all Come/Exodus/Gold material.

I was at Wembley, too. Sunday March 5th, I believe. biggrin

As ALWAYS, the correct answer to this question is:

1. Lovesexy for the theme, theatrics, musical arrangements, and overall spectacle.

2. One Nite Alone for the musicianship.

All the others are well below these two tours. FWIW, I'd rate Musicology as #3 and the Jam of the Year as the worst.

Gold in 95 was sick!! He was so hyped up, playing stuff from Come and stuff like Days of Wild. He was all over the stage and what a crazy stage... Loved that period, he was soo mad energetic. Also love the cafe de Paris New Power Soul after party. He was nuts, and dark, and funkeeeee.

i really wanted to see the nude tour...i know it's not his best, but i love that period between lovesexy and graffiti bridge - the clothes, the hair, the batman stuff, the weirdness - the tour footage i've seen looks a little overly unhinged, but i still think i would have loved it.
