How could P play guitar in the rain and not get electrocuted? Just wondering? People are starting to speculate if the guitar work during the performance was prerecorded. I believe he played. I still must ask.

So the wireless units are low voltage enough to not shock??? Just wondering..not trying to take a jab a P. I also believe we should speak out against people who say things without knowing. I don't know! I asked. I wanted to ask the questions so I would know and have ammo!

Electricity can't jump around without something to guide it from place to place, so if it's wireless Prince is in no danger, he's not connected to anything electrical. Let everyone know Prince isn't the first person to ever play in the rain I don't know how wireless electric instruments work but maybe if you learn you'll have the ammo you'll need to set everyone right.

I am not absolutely sure, but is there such thing as a cordless electric guitar? I play and I'm almost positive that you have to have an amp to play electric. I went back to the performance on my DVR and he did not have a cord hooked up. You can't have that machinery up on stage with it raining. I don't think anyone would put a huge rockstar legend's life at risk. I figured this out during the performance and I was so depressed that he might not be playing it live. I'm not sure though.
Nevermind, I just saw in the images that there was a cord. There must be some kind of wireless amp on his guitar. [Edited 2/6/07 9:46am]

I can't believe anyone would wonder if Prince was playing live or not. Of course he was, all you need is a pair of eyes and ears. There's no question. An earlier post was dead on it, electricity needs something to travel through so, Prince playing on a wireless rig is totally safe, and people have played in the rain before.

BULLSHIT!!
The fact is MANY people are speculating that some of the performance was pre-recorded!!!!! I've seen many posts on other boards questioning. I also do believe Prince was playing 100%. But I don't shelter myself by just going to this site. People don't believe because most SB performances contain pre-recordings.

If he was plugging directly into an amp, then safety would have been an issue...

[Edited 2/6/07 9:46am] Prince has been using the wireless pack for as long as I can remember. It's connected to the guitar and transmits the sound to the amps. This way he can walk all around the stage without being tethered to a cord. Check out a lot of his earlier live perforamnces, and you'll see what I mean. "I Was FINE Back in the Day!"

Yes, it would be like saying you would get automatically electrocuted if you were in the rain with a flashlight - the batteries are simply not strong enough. Prince was more in danger from the pools of water on the stage being connected to a mains source via all the cables for the lights, cameras, etc. But of course they would have been carefully insulated and protected from rainfall as much as possible.

Most of the stage that Prince walked on with the guitar was insulated with rubber to absorb any abnormal shocks. [Edited 2/6/07 11:46am]

because in our current world of technology, with wireless intarnets and instantaneous techno-gadgets and mp7s, a lotta people still think that an electric guitar's gotta be plugged into an amp in order for it to actually work. this shouldn't even be an issue, but alas...carry on with teh serious internets, everyone. keep me laughing.

wtf? that's the stupidest thing I've read here in ages. Wireless transmitters are available for ANY KIND of sound source. The signal is taken from there to the amplifying stage. How the hell do you think air control centers are able to receive audio messages from jet pilots without the jets being connected to the air control towers with cable all the time? Or have you heard, I don't know, about these mysterious things called cellphones?

His new hip is grounded, so he doesn't have to worry about that stuff anymore.
But as someone else pointed out, he's not the first to play in the rain. These concerts are big moneymakers, and they won't cancel them because of a little water. And cordless technology does make stuff safer, too, since you're not directly connected to a large load. I wouldn't play in the rain with my stuff, though. I'd definitely die. My Legacy

Look folks, I think some of the stuff being said about Prince right now is beyond BULLSHIT. But people are saying things like this. They are saying the performance was pre-recorded.
I think we all KNOW! it would have been more of a pain in the ass for Prince to fake playing the guitar vs. playing the guitar!!!!! But then AGAIN the Haters will always say..HE COULD FAKE PLAY GUITAR!! and bring up AB. [Edited 2/6/07 12:07pm] [Edited 2/6/07 12:07pm]

I would say No! Email reporters and people in the press that are wrong. Screw them that way. I'm not some pussy that will run with my tail between my legs from the haters. And I've read more than enought articles questioning 'how could he perform in the rain'..etc.

I think that some people who are unaware of his talents still want to believe that he is just some guy that only sings and dances or something. They don't believe he can ROCK! His guitar skills are at such a high level that they are almost forced into disbelief. Some are even driven to put the word Nickelback in the same sentence as Pri... oh, I can't even say it.
My father started to say the same thing last Sunday (about the guitar playing), and I truly believe it was because he was seeing for the first time what he had heard me talk about for so many years. And it was hard for him to believe that Prince was that good. Then I pointed out that Prince was playing with one hand at times, and he said, "damn, he really is good". These kind or realizations are common, I think. I even heard such comments on some local sports radio shows - from people you wouldn't classify as long time Prince fans. I think he gained a lot of respect on Sunday. Not that he needed any validation from anyone. But he deserved it.

I had a student tell me that she thought it was a bunch of crap because "he wasn't even playing his own guitar!"
I was talking to someone who pointed out that if they could play out in the rain during Woodstock in 1969, then Prince could handle it in 2007 with today's technology!
