Michael B. and Mr. Hayes...

So what happened to these two players? Did they just leave, or did they get replaced? I really liked both their styles from back in the Gold Experience days and kinda miss seeing them play live with Prince.

Are they still considered to be within Prince's entourage of musicians, even if they no longer appear to be in the NPG?

Well Mr Hayes was at the Celebration and I think I heard Michael Bland is still with Dr Mambo's Combo. I believe somebody told me Michael still plays at Bunkers in Minneapolis. Maybe,I should get a job with the Newspaper I seem to Know so much stuff and info just from the Grapevine. People tell me everything.

Michael B still plays at the bunker with Sonny T.
They're part of a group called "Sons of Almighty"(+Tommy Barbarella), and form a trio with the guitarist Jeff Lee Johnson ( " News from the Jungle"). Michael and Sonny work with the French jazzman Michel Portal (" Minneapolis"+ "Minneapolis...we insist!").

I miss them so much too, and I'm so sad that Morris doesn't play with P anymore. Those guys formed the best team!

I can see why Prince got rid of Michael Bland (and Sonny Thompson). But I don't know why (or if) he's got rid of Morris Hayes.

I think he got rid of the other 2 because of their strong personalities. I can't imagine them becoming vegetarians or stopping swearing just because Prince wanted them to. They had thier own lives away from Prince, and didn't idolise him as much as alot of other band members do.

Micheal B. didn't care for the swearing when he was in the band. He did an interview about a year ago saying it wasn't his style and he found it unncessary. Sonny T. and Prince were the ones with the potty mouths.

DCM here,

Prince did a short interview recently in the Modern Drummer issue with John Blackwell on the cover. He sent out a cryptic message to Michael B by saying quote " and he doesnt break the drum stools we buy!" You can tell that he was picking on Michael because of his weight! Im sure that there had to be some insults traded between the 2 of them regarding weight and height because Prince is still at it!

I know that musicians are fired for stupid petty reasons and I believe that it may have had to do with reasons other than musicianship!

Just my take on the situation

Actually unless he mentioned Michael B by name we can only assume who he's talking about. Kirk could be the target of that little comment for all we know. And, there is always the sarcastic humor of Prince.

Prince doesn't tell others in his band what to eat and how to talk. They don't have to be vegetarians and they can curse but not around him. My friend played keyboard for him at the park a few years ago, and when he came back the first thing he came to tell me was "Do you know you can't curse in front of him?" Then he said he and the other band members stayed and rehearsed in a mansion in Detroit and were allowed to make up a menu for themselves, consisting of WHATEVER they wanted to eat. He described it as being a very loose and carefree gig with Prince hardly ever stopping the band in rehearsal he said it was the Ultimate gig and he isn't even as big on Prince as most of the people here are. I just want people to stop assuming things that are simply not true and you have no proof of. I never would have known what a real behind the scenes rehearsal with Prince was like unless my friend had informed me. After hearing about it I was surprised at how loose P is. So your assumption is most likely wrong and uninformed.

Just to let everybody Know something. Michael Bland was always very fiendly too all of the Fans when in Prince's band. He was always Congenial and signed autographs. He also, was Nver Piggish Foodwise and when I saw him in a Diner in Florida he was eating a Healthy Diet of Tuna Salad and Vegtables. He was watching his weight and on a Diet and Prince was No where around him giving him orders or commands. Michael was Cool and I'm sure he will Always stay Cool. Mr.Hayes is also a very Congenial and Nice man.

Yes, Michael is very friendly and Sonny too... I mean, I had the occasion to talk to them last year when they played in Paris, and they talked to me very naturally, wanting to know where they could go after the show...
