Who performs the song better Foo Fighter's or Prince. It was a Jam when Prince performed it. I was wondering if it was a good song by Foo.

I LOVE the Foo's and their music reminds me of a rocked out Prince in their song structure .

Lots of swelling music that just rocks. They also have a lot of quirky stuff too.

Anyone that has not given them a chance should check em out.

Yes, it is a great song when the Foo's perform it.

Honestly, "Best of You" isn't really one of my favorite Foo Songs, lyrically it kinda makes me cringe - sounds like something written by a highschooler - especially the chorus, but for the Superbowl performance it worked out well, it was an aggressive and energetic song.

The Foo Fighters first album was basically a one-man production. Dave Grohl did practically the entire album himself - much like Prince does all his own stuff. It's a great album, especially the closing track "Exhausted". It also has a more raw sound than their later albums. "The Color and The Shape" is probabbly their best album IMO, and a good one to check out if you're interested in them. "There Is Nothing Left To Lose" is more polished pop sounding. "One By One" is heavier and louder sounding.

Self-titled album.

Prince's Best of You seemed more a little more melodic, he doesn't scream the lyrics as much as Grohl does, imo. Still the original wins out for me, but I do like how Prince starts it out with All Along the Watchtower.
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"

That is their first self titled album.

Their second album "The Color and The Shape" is their best and most cohesive album with tracks like "My Hero", "Everlong", "Monkey Wrench" and some more quirky tracks. But all of their albums have quality stuff on them. Not really a bad album imo.

I like the Foos okay, but I always hated that song.

It's too posed hard rock growl arena music--it tries too damn hard. Actually I liked Prince's version though.

Prince kind of ripped on them for doing Darling Nikki. I wonder if someone hipped him to the fact that Dave Grohl is a "real musician," and this was something of an apology?

But ask him if he's heard the Foo Fighters' version of "Darling Nikki" and Prince, who a minute earlier said he never listens to the radio ("When I want to hear new music, I go make some"), replies by describing a Hawaii DJ's response to the Foos' cover. The DJ wondered if Prince had heard it -- then said he couldn't care less if he had. "Just no respect," says Prince. "I wonder if that's the kind of thing the FCC would like to clean up, too."
So...does he like the cover? "No! I don't like anyone covering my work. Write your own tunes!" He says he got up in R&B singer Ginuwine's face for bungling the lyrics in a 1996 version of "When Doves Cry." "I was just busting on him to bust him, but I was a little serious: Have some respect, man. If anyone tried to cover 'Respect,' by Aretha? I would shoot them myself!"

Funny, Respect isn't "by Aretha." But as I said above, maybe Prince realized he was talking out of his ass.

Also I wonder if he really knows his history and who wrote what--Jimi or Bob, Aretha or Otis. Maybe he never even knew that The Best of You was the same band who covered Darling Nikki.

You got to know that Prince is a true Musicologist. There is no living musician with a more diverse musical vocabulary.

Best part is when Prince ends the song: I've got another confession my friend, I ain't no fool

I really hope that this watchtower/best of you medley will be on his next album

"Respect" *is* by Aretha. Otis Redding wrote and performed the original but after hearing her version, even he conceded "she stole his song", complimenting her spectacular version. She didn't just do a re-recording of Otis' song, she did her own arrangement and took that song to another level. Hers is the definitive version, and no one can ever do a cover of that song without drawing a comparison to hers.

But to quote Bill Clinton, I guess it could depend on what your definition of "is" is. wink
