Actually it's funny you mention Pat Boone because you probably mentioned him for the same reason they listed the people they thought were more talented than Prince. They don't know Prince like you don't know Pat Boone. When people say stuff like that, I just tell myself, "Well, they just don't know." No big deal. Regarding Pat Boone -- he is the originator of The Rainbow Children type albums -- concept albums with an underlying Christian theme and narration between each song. Check out the stuff he did with Jimmy & Carol Owens in particular, including their work with the best Christian songwriters and performers of the time. Those were some great albums. If My People is one of the best. It's only when Pat Boone came out dressed in leather, saying stupid stuff, and trying to act cool alongside the secular music industry -- that's when he became a mockery and people dismissed him as a nobody. Prince has been there too, and people are still talking about Prince the same way they talk about Pat Boone, and for the same reasons. "Well, they just don't know."

Ridiculous list from a whitey who doesn't know shit about music...

He would have named, i dunno: James Brown, George Clinton, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Bill Laswell, Miles Davis, Björk or Stevie Wonder, maybe it could have been discussed. But with Page & Plant & McCartney there's just nothing 2 discuss lol

People always confuse talent with preference.
I don't own a lot of Paul McCartney music but I can recognize that he has talent. I prefer Prince. Paul has songs with nice hooks and deep lyrics he sings well and on key. He doesn't dance and although he plays guitar he doesn't perform with the same flair and confidence as Prince. There is little or no sex appeal in Paul's performance and he is pretty much a straight up talented singer songwriter. Some people prefer him.

They are two completely different universes in music. It's as useless as comparing air to water. The kind of argument you engage in when you have absolutley nothing else better to do.

Yes Paul is musically talented, but Paul bored half the crowd at his Superbowl performance.

Sho' ur right....

How many people, black OR white, in popular music *can* do and *has* done what Prince can do?

Look at the 80's icons of which Prince is a member.

* Michael Jackson, can't play or hasn't played instruments while he sings.
* Madonna, lipsynched all of her major concerts, and can barely play her guitar.
* Bruce Springsteen's voice doesn't have the range of Prince's, and he doesn't play as many different kinds of music. Plus, he can't dance to save his life.

Other 80's gods:

Hall and Oates: EXCELLENT singers and musicians. Can't hold a candle to Prince in terms of exciting concert experiences.

Any of the 80's hair metal bands: some guitar monsters in any of the bands, but the music is one-dimensional and sometimes cliched.

Any of the 80's R-n-B bands: great harmonies, great voices, beautiful songs, but these songs are not known for their instrumentation. I love Howard Hewitt and Luthor Vandross, but as beautiful as they sound, they can't rock the house like Prince.

How about the 90's?

Nirvana? Cobain and Company were good, but honestly?

Most of rap and hip-hop? How the hell do they get even grammy nods for music sampled from real musicians?

Boy bands? Umm, no one is clamoring for a 98 Degrees or O-Town reunion.

The 60's?

The Stones could barely stay awake during their own Superbowl performance.
Who is there left from the 60's who are still playing? The Who? Great band.
But Daltrey can't play and Townshend can't sing like Prince. McCartney is awesome composer and performer, but even he admits what he can't do on guitar and piano.

There are few performers as versatile as Prince. There are certainly no successful musicians who are as accomplished as he is. Other multi-instrumentalists exist. Tony McAlpine can play blistering guitar and piano and is a musician's musician. But he's working as a side man to Steve Vai.
Todd Rungren, Steve Winwood, even Billy Joel can play many different instruments. Hundreds of session musicians around the country can do the same.
Heck, even your local high school has some prodigies about that can do amazing things and let's not even talk about the students at all the conservatories.

Talented musicians are everywhere.

None of them have played on the world stage like Prince. Others are superstars in their own right. But there ain't nobody like the Kid.

I think they are white and he doesn't wanna give a borther any credit, that's usually the case when he's compared to guitarists!
