An instant classic IMO.

The first time I listened to it I was hugely disappointed. I was expecting a hot barnburner in the vein of the Stern tracks.
I couldn't help but think of "Get Yo Groove On" which didn't help things. The company I was with liked it even less. The 2nd time was a lot better. I listened on proper speakers without as many distractions and without built up expectations. It seemed to matter who I was listening to it with also. But I always feel like any new Prince music is welcome. I'll take it all, thank you.

It's a brilliant song.
It feels so effortless and gets you moving. And the lyrics are intensely cruel and confessional. The most real sounding words to come from Prince since... In This Bed Eye Scream.

Love it.
Reminds me of a few things. Hello, She's always in my hair, Splash. Those silly lyrics, catchy tunes.

One thing I've noticed about Prince songs; if you see them, you'd better buy them when you can. You never know when the website will go down, the album is cancelled, or the album/single is out-of-print.
Even the worst Prince songs are better than most of what's out there.

Ah, the (distorted) vocal has a Girls & Boys feel to it.
"I love U baby I love so much, maybe we can stay in touch, meet in another world space and time...ect!" Girls & Boys (Parade 1986) U can sing that through out the entire song. It also has a very early Wendy and Lisa vibe to it. I like the song... it's cooler and more laid back the alot of the Prince songs that have come in the past few years. the guitar solo is nice because it's poppin' all over the place... it's preplanned messy! THINKTIMM... if nothing else!!!

My girlfriend is not a Prince fan but says she likes mostly everything I've played her with some stuff being 'exceptional'.
She thinks 'Guitar' is crap though especially the lyrics. She is of course entitled to her opinion but I ended up getting all annoyed/childish and saying 'it's actually quite good and you don't know what you're talking about'.

Bought the song it works fine with a Mac, however the song does nothing for me lyrically its weak, musically average.
I get so bored with musicians professing their love for their guitars, get over it its a piece of fucking wood. Whats next is he gonna have a picture of him and his guitar in bed together? I can't wait until Prince becomes inspired again. 23 more days to Ball Dangle Day!!!!!

Definietly not what I was expecting when I heard there was going to be a new song called 'Guitar'. I do like the song overall. Was just suprised a bit.

Hmmmm. "girls and boys" meets "shake". A bit of a stretch on the lyrics. Not quite worked out. For just shy of two bucks it was a nice musical snack now wasn't it kids? Admit it, sometimes you have the fruit, and sometimes you gotsta have that rasberry zinger, and sometimes you fall asleep with the big spoon in the ben and jerry's. I would say this falls in the red zinger category. Empty calories, but nonetheless enjoyable...and I was glad to have it/wouldn't have turned it down.
Can we agree? "I don't trust anyone who doesn't laugh--Maya Angelou

Oh! and thanks to everyone who helped out with suggestions on how to get it to download and get through the screens and questions. I had no trouble thanks to the suggestions in the first few pages. Probably never would have gotten it if I hadn't read here first "I don't trust anyone who doesn't laugh--Maya Angelou

The part that rubs me the wrong way about In This Bed... is when he says "a thousand times feel whatever 've put u through." Doesn't sound much like the apology that everyone says it is. It sounds like Prince has no idea what he put them through ("whatever I put u through"), but he went through it all worse anyway... Sorry, off topic, I know, but that's always bugged me whenever anyone holds up In This Bed Scream as an example of Prince being real and apologizing. I actually think he has never said 'sorry' or truly apologized in a song (at least, one that I've heard).

not sure if this has been said or not...sounds chaos and disorderish to me and "not like I love my guitar" reminds me of "back in the ussr"
catchy though "not a fan" yeah...ok

I don't understand the comments about "it hasn't any guitar" since there's a nice guitar solo in the middle of the song (1'42")

I truly dig it.
It's like cross between 1981 and 1986. Also, the minimalist approach, with minimal effects... nearly a dry recording. Yeah. Dig it... especially through good speakers. "He's a musician's musician..."

OK... So after listening 2 it again, which was the fourth time, through my Event studio monitors, I really, seriously dig this. From the musical level, in terms of the music and it's arrangement, 2 the sonic level, in terms of sounds used, and how they're mixed. Voice, perfect. Guitar, perfect. Diggin' the Dirty Mind era Bass Guitar... Also, the choice 4 the heavy use of acoustic drum kit sounds, of course played by Prince, was particularly enjoyable, so 2 speak...
Peace. G. "He's a musician's musician..."

Ironically, it got me 2 plug in my Tele, and play... and then play with it (the song). Now THAT was fun.
He somehow always manages 2 get me inspired, time and time again. Peace. G. [Edited 2/6/07 15:33pm] "He's a musician's musician..."

yeah it is a nice guitar to it... frankly it should not have has ANY guitar in it at all... then at the end at the very end we could hear him say "come on baby...give me back my guitar"

After listening to guitar several times, the instruments that are used and the way it's arranged, it sounds like it could easily be from mid 1986 to early 1987. Of course this is just speculation, but this song could have fit on Dream Factory perfectly. You can hear how it has elements of "Girls and Boys" and "Mia Bocca" in the beat and guitar work has that sound that lead to the fore in SOTT. But like I said just speculation as this could have been a song Prince just whipped together over the last few weeks. It's definitely a feeler song for the audience. Prince just may have returned to the form that we love from him with an updated "80's" sound in the present day. I love the song and I hope it gets to the radio and we have a video because this could top the charts no problem. If this is indicative of the album to come Prince is going to be number one again. Reminds me of how his albums evolved into the next like in the 80's. Musicology was good, 3121 was fantastic, and ? is dare I say going to great! I hope so. Keep it coming strong Prince! __________________________________________________
