Just listening now for the first time... I really dig it, alot actually. Very funky song. It reminds me more of "3121" than "Lolita."

Its nothin special, like a track of an album. Not good enough or strong enough 2 be a Prince single.

Has Prince totally lost his ability to write lyrics.

The words don't fit the rhythm of the song. There are many places where he's trying to fit too many syllables in a beat.

The song could've been much better with a more lush production. When the song first kicks in, a Wall of Sound type of production would've worked great.

A huge plus on this song are the guitar solos! Prince's solos have been deadly on the song 3121 and this one.

MoMMY Whats a Guitar?

OK, well after a few problems with the order page I was finally able to download Guitar and I have successfully burned it to cd. The first time I listened to it on my computer I wasn't sure how I felt about it, I sort of felt like I was in limbo. Then I put the cd in my player and I have the song on repeat and now I have to say I'm really having a good time with it. I've been dancing and singing to it for the last hour. I felt motivated and cleaned my bedroom tonight in no time! OK,so now I'm hooked on this song and I want some more,yes I realize that's a greedy thing to say. But I feel like this if foreplay and I need to get to that final place.

I'm wondering if the Superbowl performance might be available for download on there soon.

I think the big problem with "Guitar" is the fact that the song wasn't available till like 7 EST. Fans/Fams were already pissed off for having to wait all day long for it and then to get something that was so totally different than what the rumor mill had spread created a lot of disappointment.

Plus with every new release EVERYONE wants it to be a masterpiece and when its not well the the cycle just starts over.

i think its funky (= gets sexy thoughts in my mind ) + gets my body moving. Its simple, a bit repetitive, wierd solo. not bothered about lyrics. there is guitar playing funky things in the background and popping bass.

i also like it when he adopts a character and sticks to it (must because he records quickly) because his voice has the same stress/tonal expression throughout (he has always done this though, just pointing out its a prince characteristic).

it reminds me of black sweat with that long buzzing sound going over the chorus.

I like the song I really do but lyrically not one of his best efforts. Song of the heart not nearly as strong musically as Guitar suffered from the same syllable challenged syndrome.

One other thing....I think Price if he would have any weakness he is lyrically challenged. Just too cute sometimes. I started to notice it mostly after Wendy and Lisa left. They were great editors for him

No disrespect but you must be incapable of understanding criticism. Just because one doesn't like 'Guitar' and is able to convey why they find it so incredibly lackluster as a song, pop, rock, or otherwise, doesn't mean they're a 'miserable sack.'

Prince has done lots of great things, is a genius of unequal standing and his place in history is safe but the man can still put out some incredibly weak studio material, in fact, as of late it's all he's been doing. Ok, after having a couple days to listen over the song and with a fresh state of mind (instead of F5 a page for an hour waiting for a download) I believe 100% that this song is utter garbage. At first I thought I liked it, but I just couldn't believe a song titled "guitar" would suck. Not that I cared if it was rocking, cause I didn't. But to have a title of "guitar" you better bring something, no you better bring all you have.

I could see Prince writing "guitar," laying down the tracks and recording in about an hour. I could see my ten-year-old brother doing the same if he had a multimillion dollar studio.

It's seriously lazy music. Prince is lazy. His music is so uninspiring. I hate his new stuff. I still consider myself a fan because of his first five albums, however.
