Probably the best SB performance I've seen. He used the space well, the marching band was a great addition. He did the songs that the SB audience would know and enjoy. The fireworks and the rain just added to the performance. My only issue was that big woman in the white leotard and cape. WTF was that??? i cried. DAMN! he worked it OUT! ME TOO!!!! Tears of excited joy!! Stood in my living room clapping and cheering I'm so happy...he did great, esp. in all that rain. I don't think he looked tense at all as some have said- he looked happy. And I am SO impressed he did AATW/Best of You, because I really didn't think he would (and said so elsewhere). Excellant show!!! I am SO PROUD to be a Prince fan right now!!! Ask where they're going, they'll tell U – "Nowhere"
They've taken a lifetime lease on Paisley Park ...

But indeed, the audience seemed to love it and it was nice that between the 'hits' he played this cover version of The watchtower / Best of you. But....one tiny thing... was he wearing that scarf around his head to keep his wig in place (i am serious here) Ah, come on, he wore that thing because IT WAS RAINING. Hallo? And besides, he's woren such a thing a lot of times by now.

THAT'S MY NIGGA!!
Seriously. Prince did not disappoint. I am so proud of him. The guitar work was phenomenal, though he sounded a little flat on the Purple Rain solo. I guess he was trying to play it a different way. He can use this performance to kick off another big year, just like he did with the Grammys and The RRHOF My only complaints: Too many covers (three). But done very well. No new songs, unless you count AATW, which could be a single. We should all feel damn lucky that Prince has stayed around this long for us to enjoy. I've been a fan for 26 years, it's been a great ride, and from the way he looked tonight, it'll probably go on for another 20.

WOW!!! I guess Prince wanted the world to remember that he can rock out with the best of them. It was a stellar performance by a legend. The band sounded great and the Twinz did their thang. Kudos to FAMU the marching 100. Celebrate Black History in the making.

The Best of you is so bad ass. I love it!!!!!
It was a lil rushed but he only has so much time. I thought it was FABULOUS especially with the rain pouring down! "Paisley Park is in your Heart"

The best SB performance I have seen was U2 in 2002.....but maybe that was because it was more emotionally charged because of 9-11.....

I thought he was a great sport & so proud 2 c the crowd apreciating him so much. The chant @ the end of Purple Rain was electrifying. Made me feel emotional. I was dissapointed with the drumming tho. She did sound rather weak & loose on the Pres conference show. & even more so @ the main event. He definately should have gone 4 John Blackwell or some1 like that 4 this show! It did show as a lck of puch & energy 2 the rhythmic element of the show. Still, fantastic show. Hopefully this is Prince's apreciation era & we'll c alot more like this!!!

I've never been crazy about the medlies; but you had to expect that.
I think it was a solid performance; not great but not embarassing in any way. Pros: Guitar was prominent Vocals were good; especially his lower register - sounded nice and rich Marching band was cool addition Jimi/Foo Fighter cover - brave choice Cons: Too many songs squeezed in Purple Rain was way too truncated; couldn't get into it Rain = no Prince dance moves All in all, great to see Prince on that big a stage. He deserves the recogntion. It could have been really cheesy; but I think he showed his skills well, and did a classy job!

I think to get a performance out like that in those weather conditions is a testament to the professionalism (and talent) of Prince and his band.
But he did appear tense for LGC certainly, and the guitar work seemed a little rushed throughout (like Fury at the BRITS as opposed to the performance of it on SNL), not quite up to the standard we know he's capable of. Nice to see him throw in some covers there to mix it up a bit - although only PR album originals (1999 riff excepted) - another big hit from another time in his career would be nice for these big shows (like the Grammies and Brits). That's a lot of songs to squeeze into such a short time. And damnit, I wanted to see him throw his guitar away at the end! I'm guessing that scarf went on his head because of the rain - but it looked like it was coming apart - a brave move to just throw it off near the end. Has anybody seen Prince's hair less styled than during Purple Rain?

But....one tiny thing... was he wearing that scarf around his head to keep his wig in place (i am serious here) No. When I saw Prince at the aftershow in Vegas I was standing next to a bodyguard and talking to him. I mentioned Prince had a wig on and he corrected me immediately. With the devices used these days, there's a wire across the back of the head between the ears. That's why I thought he had a wig on. His hair looked cut in half from the back...The bodyguard always had his eyes forward and "on duty". And no, he doesn't wear a wig. According to his staff, anyhow. [Edited 2/4/07 18:22pm]

I loved it. It was the best Super Bowl performance I've seen and I'm not bullshitting. Even in the rain, Prince was able to do the job and thensome.
My friend who just got back from Iraq the other day called me and told me he and his familt were impressed by the performance. His mom asked him, why is Prince wearing and Aunt Jemima wig? Prince did his job and I'm proud of him! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You're not talking about Shelby Johnson are you? i'm REALLY sorry, but she has GOT TO GO. when i first saw her, i was like "oh no they do NOT have someone up there dancing in a dove costume!" then i saw the damn hat and knew who it was. still and all: LOVED IT. very proud of our princey. he pulled it off and kicked ass. i could tell he was struggling, but he did a superb job. my favorite parts were 'best of you' and when he threw his doo rag off. i've never seen him do that before!

Not many artists would go out there and play something live they've never done b4 in front of such a HUGE audience. That's why I didn't think he'd do it. I am so in awe of the man right now, I'm back feeling like my trip to Vegas was a dream. There's just no way I just shook hands with him only 2 weeks ago in an aftershow room with only about 60 or so other people- and now to see him on that massive, gorgeous stage in front of all those people??? omg p.s to those who asked, that woman in white is Shelby.
