he did make some music videos during that time. lip synched. he also lip synched the american bandstand performance. it was pretty normal to lipsynch in the late seventies early eighties. those small tv sets did not really have the ability to handle live bands. they could be promotional shots too. i know for certain that he played live guitar for concerts throughout his entire career. | |

Check out the 1985 Syracuse concert... the same set-up as is suggested - going directly into the back of the guitar - is at work here.... or Prince is miming. I remember watching the concert for the first time and wondering where the hell his guitar was coming from. | |

no shit. I've been playing guitar for 20+ years and have never heard of such a thing (built in wireless). I wonder why guys like Eddie Van Halen never got on that - they were constantly bitching about their strap-taped boxes | |
