I thought it was an awesome performance. A bit rough and ready due to the nature of the occasion, room and set-up, but nethertheless fantastic. As a hardcore fan obviously I don't care if the non-fans couldn't recognise the songs or expected well-known hits, but surely even if people couldn't recognise the music they could recognise an amazing talent on guitar. The guts of Prince to just come out and do the unexpected like that... never ceases to amaze me.
God knows what he's going to play at the Superbowl, but I doubt more and more it will be the obvious hits... The Twinz seem to get a lot of hate on here, I really don't know why. I think they sing/dance perfectly fine and although I rarely take my eyes of what Prince is doing, they add some nice peripheral eye-candy. Does he really need them? No, but they add to the visuals of the whole performance nicely.

merce29 said: Um??? He ended it with "Get on the Boat"! From his "3121" cd. Have you heard of this before. After Anotherloverholenyohead, he play a heavy guitar melody of "Dr. Feelgood", Motely Crue style, not Rosie Gaines. I know a lot of people hear 'Dr. Feelgood' but to me it is clearly Prince soloing on top of the basic theme of the B-52s Rock Lobster. I can't hear 'Feelgood' at all.

True professional that he is, he managed to play around her, but you can see her struggling to get out and getting madder, like that YouTube video of the cat in the washing machine. Poor Prince - looks like she's breaking his arm. Get off him, woman! He's almost 50, y'know - his body can't take this stress anymore! datwinzneed2go edit [Edited 2/1/07 14:13pm] ----- Do not know if this was planned or not but any guys who do not get it are gay and the ladies are jealous looks cool.

There are no revoluntionaries in music anymore and it got to a point when he was off doing his own thing no one was listening examples (Rainbow Children)

Interesting to hear those two songs together. It is the difference between the genius of the mid 80's and the burned out icon of the 21st century. I don't mean any disrespect. I guess it happens with all the great ones eventually. I mean, how many people got excited about the last Stevie Wonder album that came out??? I still hold to the belief that Prince is still capable of making quality albums that are unique and creative. You see him live and you know he's still got it, but somehow it just doesn't translate into the studio- all that passion, energy, and most of all that stripped down raw sound which gets buried in overdubs and sound effects on the album. It's almost like in the studio his creativity has become his curse. Case in point, the performance of "Reflection" with Wendy on Tavis Smiley. Play that version then play the album version. It's just not the same. A good friend of mine said it best. He's become a reactionary instead of the revolutionary he once was. Even still, he's the best live performer ever and in that regard he really hasn't "missed a stroke".

If U look at the performance then U'll see he doesn't make strange or ugly faces!Like NuPwr319 said: someone just captures those faces at the right time. The sound quality of the broadcast isn't good,so I don't think we can predict how the band will sound on Sunday. BTW:Thanx 4 those pictures! Exactly, to all of the above.... And thanks for the pix Serpan....

the band was a mish mash, nobody for Prince to work with/bounce off. them twinz aint got shit all, only thing going for them is that they look alike. it doesnt automatically equate chemistry.. looks a tad sordid too. then, amongst these lesser performers you have a great player like Renato, lost and tucked away. Prince's playing seemed histrionic.. all showboating, no feeling. Ending all your songs with a 'lets go crazy' finale was boring and devoid of any emotion. Its such a shame because Prince can do so much bettr. With all emphasis on the guitar i was hoping he would drop something special.. not a rock'n'roll by numbers version of johnny b goode with a handfull of guitar faces for good measure. on the otherhand perhaps its hard to get inspired in the afternoon in front of a load of journo's to quote billy "better kick ass tomorrow night or else" (...i know..sunday) i know you can do it Prince The performance was fantastic, the Twinz choreography has stepped up, Cora ripped the drums, Prince tore it up!

If he was insecure about everything people thought about him, then he wouldn't be able to perform. I bet he smoothly brushes all the criticism from his fans off his shoulder and shakes his head, laughs and says "Yeah but you spend your valuable time discussing me on a daily basis on these unofficial Prince sites dedicated to me, and still tune in on the internet/tv when you know I'll be performing and you still come out to see me perform...so really, who gets the last laugh?" You gotta love the guy. : [Edited 2/2/07 6:52am]

His eyes looked swollen like he had just woken up and I don't think he was wearing eyeliner but he sure didn't look like he was in any pain. And the hair wasn't right for me either but did love the performance and LOVE those faces he makes! I'm three years older than Prince and my impression in some of the photos is: he looks tired. When I saw him in Vegas he played between midnight and 05:30. I felt that must be a tough lifestyle, being up all night, performing.... It could be he's normally sleeping the time of day he did this performance. He definitely looks like he needs a nap. No amount of makeup is going to fix sleep deprivation.

No confusion for me... I even went and listened to the Motley Crew song to check, but I can't hear it. I may be wrong, but it seems to me those that think it is Motley Crew do so because they don't know the B-52s song.
