WORD! I can taste the bitterness in the original post. Does the World Cup even have a halftime show? Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

. [/b] Super Bowl XLI is available to an estimated worldwide audience of 750 million to 1 billion people. There are 19 television and radio stations from 14 countries broadcasting the game on site from Dolphin Stadium. [Edited 1/31/07 9:35am] Yes, the Superbowl is available to about 60 million people in the UK - but only a couple of hundred thousand might actually take advantage of that availablility, if that. So the actual worldwide viewing figures of the Superbowl will only be a tiny fraction of the number that will have access to it (likely under 100 million, with nearly all of them, say 98%, in North America). This compares to an ACTUAL figure of 1 billion+ for the World Cup Final. So the Superbowl half-time will be great for Prince in the US, but will not do a jot to get him back on the world stage. He does have a point. I live in England and have lived in a few other countries and I've never met anyone who had any interest in the superbowl, or even knew what sport is played (Is it baseball or American football?). The only time I've heard it talked about was when Janet's breast bum-rushed the show. It won't get him any exposure in Europe that's for sure, unless something really unusual happens.

A lot of these bitter non-American fans seem to have a problem comprehending that. And as an aside, whether Prince performs or isn't really the point. I really have to wonder if some of ya'll are just irritated that Americans don't give a shit about the World Cup or soccer in general. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hardly anyone knows even the rules of the game outside the North American continent. Likewise, NFL scores are not published in the newspapers, however the Superbowl does get a wide coverage annually because it's such a big media event in the States - and that attracts the attention of Europeans and the rest of the world automatically. Partly because the European broadcasting companies have such close ties with the American ones.
However, the event stays as a newsbit, nobody gives a fuck about Superbowl or the teams that are in it. It attracted the most attention here when Michael Jackson was doing the half-time show in the early 90s. To say it's the world's most watched sports event of the year is just incredibly moronic.

Can someone tell me (European, so I have no clue how long the first half of an American football game takes) around what time the half-time performance will be? I have about 150 channels, and only one (ARD - Germany) is broadcasting the super bowl (as far as I have been able to find out). And guess what? In 'about' 2.5 (two and a half) hours of the live broadcast the channel has scheduled a Late News programme... Poor Prince
But I would like an true answer to my question, because I am not going to set the VCR for a news broadcast... Thanks. Edit: also NASN is in my package. I am sure they won't skip Prince's performance... [Edited 2/1/07 14:03pm]
