"Ashlee Simpson was great. I really like when Sinead O'Conner (a Broncos fan ) ripped the picture of Pope John Paul II (a 49ers fan) during one halftime show. What great tom foolery."

weeding through the crap , heres the Prince related stuff:

Initial post :

"Maybe it is just me, but the fact that the NFL is actually proud of the pact that Prince is headlining the half-time show is more obscene than the Janet Jackson fiasco a few years ago. Maybe it is my generation(I'm 26) but this guy can't entertain his target audience, which has to be 50 year old men who...well prefer men. This guy makes David Bowie look like Chuck Norris. What happened to a solid rock band blasting out guitar-amped rips filled with beer fueled loops getting you amped for a great second half. Not a guy who makes you want to tuck your junk under your legs and sing YMCA!!!"

responses:

"the first year MTV was in charge and they had N'Sync, Aerosmith and Britney Spears on the same stage. . .that was way worse than anything Prince can even aspire to. . .even if he decides to rock the pants with no rear end in them."

"whoever doesn't like prince really has a terrible taste in music, or they're just insecure about something"

"He might be a little eccentric, but he's a great musician. And to let the OP know, I'm 26 and have never been intimate with another man."

"according to Chapelle and Charlie Murphy...the man has mad hoops skills."

"he's definitely out there, but there's no denying his musical genius"

"id rather watch prince than most crappy bands out there. The worst had to be the rolling stones, they looked half dead on the stage and sounded like crap."

"I'll watch the halftime show with prince, and make someone else bring me my beer. There aren't many musicians as talented as Prince. "

"im not a huge fan of prince but i do like about 10 of his songs. the man has skills and the shows he puts on i hear are outstanding so im looking forward to prince."

"Yes he is a weird dude, but you can't deny the guy is musically talented and can whale on the guitar."

"The dude has always been able to whale on the guitar...I remember see him in the clubs in the Twin Cities in the early 80s...the dude could flat out smoke it..."

"This looks like a great halftime show to me. Prince is an incredible live performer and an amazing guitarist. "

"The man is a musical genius and his style should be awed not ridiculed."

"first off Prince is not g@y and has banged some of the badest chicks on the planet, Second if you have ever been to a prince concert you would know he rocks the house. I do not know how he will go over for the crowd but the guy has mad skills."

"Say what you want about Prince but his music crossed over to all colors, races and cultures. "Little Red Corvette" had the whole world grooving."

"Not to mention ' When Doves Cry ', of course that just might me being all girly, but I loved that song as a kid and still do today."

"i took my girlfriend to a Prince show a while back and was blown away with the show. The guy does a great live show. Whether it translates to a great halftime show remains to be seen, but I would be surprised if it didn't."

Just goes to show you that most of the general publci don't know jack shit.

It's always so sad to see "musicians" sounding so ignorant of his genius when they of all people should know whats up

sad (and strange) but true

I like how the first thing that came to their mind was Purple Rain. They must really be dumb to think Prince would play that at the SuperBowl Half-Time confused

Just saw a story at www.espn.com about Prince's bad hip and the potential for hip replacement surgery. Anybody know if there is a shred of truth in that report?

As for the espn message board, you can argue about "taste" all you want. Some folks don't like Prince's music. That's fine. I don't like a lot of stuff outside of Prince. But people who question his talent are ignorant -- in the truest sense of the word. They just don't know any better. Hopefully, they watch and listen with an open ear and mind. We know the truth about his musicianship.

I know, right. It's 2007 and still the best criticism some people can drum up is "he looks gay".

Sad.

"Prince is an outstanding performer. He'll put on a hella show during halftime, he's likely to offend someone. (Always a plus in my book, especially if it includes dry humping Peyton Manning) "
