To your information, on another forum (not a music forum by the way) someone familiar with Candy Dulfer, said that Candy will perform with Prince during the Superbowl. Unfortunaly i cannot confirm this with an official link.

Judging on the recent input of Renato Neto in the 3121-club in Las Vegas, i dont be surprised when he turns up as the keyboard player.

Confirmed by herselve is that Shelby (i forgot her surname.. Jones? Brown?) will perform during the superbowl, as background / duet-singer is suppose?

Personally i hope he will bring in the superb rhythem tandem of Michael Bland and Sonny Thompson.

Mixing together the rumours and news from the last weeks i won't be surprised if we see the following setlist (of approx. 15 minutes totally).

1. Lets go Crazy (an obvious choice, and it is also to be heard in the ad for the superbowl performance).
2. Guitar (the new track, which i think is an early single for an album released in late spring / early summer)
3. Get on the Boat (with Shelby on background vocals, and the FEMU-marching band on 'horns', different insiders on the Housequake forum 'leaked' information about this song being played during the superbowl)

The Vegas band is basically The Twinz, Morris Hayes on keyboards/organ, Josh Dunham on bass and Cora Dunham on drums. I fully expect they will be there at the Superbowl, perhaps with the addition of Renato Neto and Maceo Parker who have occasionally shown up at the club, plus Shelby on back-up vocals. Prince usually brings Shiela E to these type of things too...

People say they 'don't know' the new band as though the players are somehow characterless; I think it is simply because they haven't done a high-profile tour yet. Who knew who Sonny T or Michael B were before? Or John Blackwell and Rhonda Smith when they first started out? Now they are much loved.

I really have to believe that he will also play the Watchtower/Best of U song, otherwise why send it to a radio station?

Ditto...but maybe they're not as good at covers of Watchtower and Best Of U...which I enjoyed...I trust Prince's judgement, I just wanna know who the freak they are!

See, unless you've been to Vegas you're making your assessment on a very few tv performances, which is hardly fair for a new band. Make that assessment after a tour, and fair enough. People want the Musicology band back; before that they wanted the original NPG back, before that the Lovesexy band, before that the Revolution. Give it time, people will love the new band and when he changes it yet again, people will be crying out for the 3121 band back!

The funny thing is that the few tv appearances the band has done, many people say they have been some of the best Prince has done, so I don't understand why people don't like the new players.

Just saw the band in Vegas and at two aftershows...You have to add the horn players: Greg Boyer, someone i forgot his name ( sorry) on trumpet and
Mike Philipps on sax...he`s incredible by the way...equal or better than maceo...

The Band is great..go see them live at 3121!!
by the way they rehearsed...Let`s go crazy...Baby I´m a star...unknown guitar track and Purple Rain...don`t know...
Oh, and chaos and disorder at one time too...

I doubt many people will be begging for this band to come back. Theyre dull and boring. The performances hes done with the band SNL being my fave, for me was all about P and his guitar. Not the band. Not the Twinz. But P. The band just doesnt have the charisma, or personality of the bands of the past. They dont make you want to watch them. Sure the focus should be on P, but I like a band that is not only funky, but charismatic as well. This is the first band hes had that I just dont really like.

I don't know how you can imply that Rhonda, Blackwell and Neto had more charisma than the current band. At best they are the same - talented musicians but quite boring background figures at best. They just stood/sat there and did their thing, just like the current band. I mean, compare Neto to Dr. Fink - Neto copied Fink's 'old time keyboard solo' note for note, but you never felt like he was feeling it, not as much as when he reverted to type and did those endless boring jazz improvs on the 'God' theme. Rhonda was reliable but hardly lit up the stage; Josh is equally bland. John B was great - but I never got anything about his character to say he was charismatic, or say, more charismatic than Cora.

I though his old band not only had more charisma, but they were extremely talented. That was one tight band. Sure getting a band tight takes time, but I had fun watching Candy, Rhonda, and blackwell onstage with Prince. The new band, and those worthless Twinz just dont have it.

I miss them too!! and I still crave for the old days of the Revolution, esp. Dr. Fink (who was still there for LoveSexy). Not only was he a great keyboard player, but he was always funny and interesting in interviews as well. I also don't feel I've really gotten to know the band much since the early 90's. So many changes, and he keeps them more in the background it seems- except for the dancers anyway.
