3121 vs. Musicology Am I the only 1 here who thinks that musicology is certainly better than 3121
1. Musicology (4:23) 2. Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance (4:45) 3. A Million Days (3:49) 4. Life O' The Party (4:29) 5. Call My Name (5:14) 6. Cinnamon Girl (3:56) 7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do? (4:14) 8. The Marrying Kind (2:49) 9. If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life (3:08) 10. On The Couch (3:33) 11. Dear Mr. Man (4:14) 12. Reflection (3:03) So many cool songs here, it's easier to mention the dead ones 4 & 10 1. 3121 (4:31) 2. Lolita (4:06) 3. Te Amo Corazón (3:37) 4. Black Sweat (3:11) 5. Incense And Candles (4:05) 6. Love (5:46) 7. Satisfied (2:50) 8. Fury (4:02) 9. The Word (4:12) 10. Beautiful, Loved And Blessed (5:43) 11. The Dance (5:21) 12. (6:19) here the dead ones: Get On The Boat well

Whoa... now this is something I can contribute to cuz I've been doing a little work on this over the course of the week. I've listened to each album twice this week.
In Musicology, I like all of the tracks, but I'm on the fence about "The Marrying Kind" and "If Eye was the Man in Ur life", not sure if I like them or not. And as you put it, "On the Couch" is "dead". In 3121, I like all of the tracks a lot. I'm a little on the fence about "Get on the Boat", not sure if I like it or not. I did like it initially, but now I'm not so sure. It all really depends on your mood, I guess. Musicology is very old-school, but in a sophisticated sort of way. I definitely like it a lot more than I did initially. I let Prince be the "navigator" of the album and he did some amazing things for me, in songs like "A Million Days", "Reflection", "What do you want me 2 do?". It definitely gets points with me becuase Prince plays all of the instruments in nearly all the songs. (Perhaps after sleeping on it, I'll come up with more of an agruement in its favor). 3121 has its charm as well. But today, some of the early tracks (3121 and Lolita) give me the feeling of Prince selling out to giving his music a more modern sound that today's teenager/college kids could buy into. I still like the songs, but the background music for them is just a little monotonous. The following songs, I feel, stand above the rest in terms of greatness: Te Amo Corazon, Love, The Word, The Dance, Beautiful Loved & Blessed there's something to like in all of the tracks. Even Satisfied, which I didnt like initially, is growing on me. 3121 and I had a better initial connection than Musicology. I definitely feel like Prince's mind and mine are on the same wavelength in 3121 and we connect more throughout the album. But we've started to connect over Musicology as well. I'm stuck right now... I don't know which I like better, but give me until tomorrow. I'll come up with something. Promise. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

Agreed however both failed to keep my attention. Matter of fact.... Newpower Soul,Rave,3121,Musicology over all left me feeling bored. We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

It might b when musicology came out I was at a dead end, I needed it, something light.
When 3212 came out I was needing something real. It's more cute than real. I don't get it when some people say it might b on its way 2 bcome a classic.

3121 is the NHL , Musicology is merely the AHL
Wow, a Prince-hockey analogy. Some days I even impress myself merf

Black sweat as a song I really find quite dull.
nice production on it, but the idea is dull. Like a mix between the work and kiss.

I've grown to really appreciate Musicology - There's quite a few gems on that album, songs that endear themselves over time. The compositions are sophisticated but also restrained - And I think that the simplicity works really well.
My faves on Musicology: ICP&C A Million Days Call My Name WDYWM2D? If I Was the Man in Your Life 3121, on the other hand, feels like a step backward. There are a couple of really strong cuts (the title track, Lolita, and Black Sweat), but many of the songs feel uninspired to me. I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

Oh c'mon, I am gonna have to back and play Musicology again to see what Y'all see in it.
3121 in my opinion is vastly superior, Musicology dull and uninspired, perhaps his worst record. Someone gotta agree with me on this merf

1. Musicology (4:23)
3. A Million Days (3:49) 5. Call My Name (5:14) 7. What Do U Want Me 2 Do? (4:14) 11. Dear Mr. Man (4:14) 12. Reflection (3:03) those are the only ones on musicology i can still stomach lowest quotient of good songs on any prince album for me. 1. 3121 (4:31) 2. Lolita (4:06) 3. Te Amo Corazón (3:37) 4. Black Sweat (3:11) 5. Incense And Candles (4:05) 6. Love (5:46) 7. Satisfied (2:50) 8. Fury (4:02) 9. The Word (4:12) 10. Beautiful, Loved And Blessed (5:43) 11. The Dance (5:21) 12. Get On The Boat (6:19) don't hate anything on this album. some songs are fluffy or just boring like "Get on the Boat" (although the last 20 seconds save it) and that horrible version of "The Dance" (which was 100 times better first time round on The Chocolate Invasion). it's also a bit strange to hear that Tamar song on this album. all in all, 3121 is -for me anyway- a lot better of an album than that mess of a Musicology cd. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Musicology is indeed a better album than 3121.
3121 is more likable on first listen though. But Musicology's songs seem to weather better.

Musicology is not a push-over album.
It has 2 bummer tracks, but then overall more character, integrity (or somethin') Of the 2 albums though Fury is my fave. closely followed by Call My Name Musicology seems 2 have personality though. 3213 is a whore in her prime, but a whore all the same.

I think I'll always have more of an affinity for 3121 based on my first listen alone.
The initial connection we had was an incredible, something that I didn't get while listening to Musicology and TGE on their first time. In the case of Musicology, I listened thru half the CD and stopped becuase I wasn't connecting with it or really enjoying it all that much. 3121 knows how to put a smile on my face and all of the tracks are very unique in their own way. Variety keeps me interested, I guess. But Musicology is a little more heart-felt and laid-back. It has a sophistiated, old-school charm about it that I like. I still have a few tracks to "define" before I can answer in all truthfulness. Tracks 8-10 need another listen b4 I can make a decision. It might come down to the fact that I like more tracks from 3121, therefore I like it more. Musicology has an artistic edge to it, 3121 makes me smile and I feel like Prince's mind and mine are on the same wavelength thru almost the whole album. I value a connection like that very highly. Prince makes things a little more difficult and complicated because I don't want to just pick which songs I like. I want to really listen to them because he put a lot of work into putting them together. And based on my experience with 3121, I want to connect with him thru the album and that's where the real magic comes in. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
