Oh my goodness, I was going to start a thread just like this, but you beat me to it! I wondered that too, if Prince would have been as accepted if he was a woman. I mean, it was daring enough for a man to blur the lines of gender, genre, and race back in the day, but for a woman to do that? I can't imagine what the reaction would be. Not to mention, I bet some people would feel threatened by a woman that multi talented, especially if she had Prince's confidence. Record executives would have either been too afraid to work with her, or they would have exploited the hell out of her.
