Splash

Maybe it's been mentioned before, I'm unsure but... why hasn't the song "Splash" been mentioned in any of the biographies like DMSR or anything? Was it 2 be part of a album project or a sign that there really r many songs unheard songs in the vault?

Yes. Splash was talked about in Days Of Wild, TURN IT UP, and DMSR to name a few... actually now that I think about it, UPTOWN had the skinny on this track long before anyone had heard of it.

Good show!

Splash wasn't intended for any particular album
when it was recorded, and it never appeared on
any of the unreleased projects like 'Dream Factory'
from that time.

It was one of the tracks slated for inclusion on
the 'Roadhouse Garden' album that Prince was
gonna release a while back. Though the chances
of that album seeing the light of day seem
slimmer each year.

Splash, I love that song...

anybody get the real meaning behind the song...? I notice the rexual references that can be found in many of Prince's works (even now). I just get the feeling from listening to it that it has deeper meaning...

That's correct. 'Spash' could also be correctly deemed to be a 'Parade' era song, even though it was not intended for any particular album.

"Splash" was recorded in August 1985, during the same session that produced "Empty Room", "Sexual Suicide" , "Go" and "My Sex" (this last track is not currently circulating amongst fans).

I don't remember reading about Splash in DMSR, I have 2 go back and check. Out of all the bootlegs and outtakes from the Revolution era, It's sorta wild that this 1 wasn't included.

See page 265 of DMSR. THE BIBLE of Prince books. Whoever researched this (probably Per) tracked down amazing stuff about the studio work P has done. How does UPTOWN get these people to talk about their time with him. I thought they were notoriously silent.

Speaking of which, I just love Clare Fischer's contributions to Prince's songs. He really seems to know how to strike the right balance.

Where would songs like 'Pink Cashmere' and '3 Chains O' Gold' be without him???

Does anyone know if they still haven't met in person? I believe Prince doesn't want to meet Clare in case it ruins the 'chemistry'.

The Per Nilsen books are amazing, but of course they are lacking songs. Especially from the second part of the 90s. I mean, we really don't know about any songs except for the ones Prince released, do we? Turn It Up 2.0 lists some outtakes from 1997 if I remember correctly but nothing from then on.
They didn't know about "Breathe" for example.
