Who here became a fan at the youngest and oldest ages?

I liked 1999 and Little Red Corvette when the came out but the tail end of the Purple Rain era and the beginning of the ATWIAD era is when I became a die hard fan at age 12.

I became a fan at 5.O_O . I saw "When Doves Cry" and saw him get out of that bath tub and I nearly went crazy, thinking I saw a naked man for the first time lol. But I liked When Doves Cry and kept singing it.

I was 10 or 11 when I became a fan. But I remember dancing on soft and wet and I was 4. It was exactly the type of songs I love to dance my "elephant dance". lol

I had no idea 3121 was coming out. So...

I was 10 and heard controversy and that started my love for Prince. My son is 6 now and he loves to watch sign o the times since age 3. He grabs his battery operated guitar and does a great 3121 on the coffee table with Prince at the BET awards. I caught him in the bathroom last week singing Lolita in the mirror too cute!! lol

My daughter was still in the womb(9 months) at the Xenophobia Celebration. She was kicking like crazy during Prince's sets.

At 4, she still digs Prince.

My daughter was 2 and a half last week.
The first song she ever really got into was Purple Rain. Musta been shortly after the Prince DVD Collection came out cos I had the Purple Rain DVD on while I was giving her the bottle. I never really appreciated the track Purple Rain until after my daugher said it was her favourite song. I think she has a better ear than I do cos she also likes some serious jazz stuff and of course the godfather of soul Mr. James Brown.
Prince was always on in the background but it wasn't until the Brits performance that she showed she was a proper Prince fan cos she asked my wife to replay it over and over while I was at work.
Her favourites are Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Kiss, "the ABCD song with Shiela E", Starfish and Coffee and Raspberry Beret.

NOT SO FAST!

I was going to go with me at first but I was 8 going on 9 when I became a fan. Since we're including offspring...

My daughter who has recently joined the Org as SexyBeautifulOneJr and will testify to this, was conceived listening to Prince, developed with daily Prince concerts via my headphones on my belly, was delivered at Sinai Hospital in Detroit on Jan. 26, 1989 at 11:32pm listening...to Purple Rain.

She loves Jay-Z more but I don't hold that against her and at her 18th birthday party this weekend, she has requested several Prince songs be played. touched

My daughter was listeneing to Prince in her cradle... mainly the second CD of Emancipation, she seemed to find it very relaxing...

She has the edit verison of that CD now (no swearing to be heard in the face down track!), Musicology, 2 Prince 'Best of@ and 3121 that she bought with her OWN money!!

For Christmas I got her the sheet music for Musicology as she plays the piano quite well....

(oh yeh - and for the record she LOVES Candy Dulfer on the sax - made my daughter take that up too!!)

As far as I'm concerned, my sister insisted I watch Purple Rain when I was about 11... never looked back since then!

I was 9 years old in 1982 when I fell in love with Prince after seeing him perform on Solid Gold. Then watching his early, pre-PR videos on MTV in heavy rotation (Those early years were SOOOO cool on MTV when you could be exposed to all kinds of music.) I was 10 when I bought 1999 with my own money through a mail-order company that accepted COD. I was SO intrigued with the dirty language and I really believe that's how I first heard of sex, Let's Pretend We're Married, Automatic, and Lady Cab Driver were DEFINITELY educational. playboy

I then purchased every album and single released to date, without my mother knowing. I had a canopy bed and put that poster of Prince in the shower that came with the Controversy album over my bed underneath the canopy. It was months before my mom noticed it. Surprisingly, she was cool about it and didn't make me take it down. It stayed there til I graduated from high school in 1991. I still have that poster. lol I just turned 34 last month.

I was 11 years old in 1982 when I first saw Prince's video for "Little Red Corvette" and heard the "1999" album, plus the songs of Vanity 6 "Nasty Girl" and The Time "The Walk." Loved it! That is when I became a fan.

Hmmmmm,

When I saw the "1999" video I was hooked. 1982-1983.

I was 13 i think.

I always consider February 1983 the anniversary date for my discovering Prince.
That is when I bought "Little Red Corvette" on a vinyl 45. I think it was
selling for 0.99 cents then. And I got the "All the critics love you in New York" B-side.
And I wondered what happened in the songs after the fade, then
I got the album, and heard extended version, etc. Wow!!! Amazing music.

And the songs just get better as they have gotten older.
