Wow! I was just watching on video the UNDER THE CHERRY MOON MTV PERMIER PARTY with the 10,000th caller Lisa Barber from Sheridan, Wyoming. Who remembers this from 7/1/86.

I heard or read some rumors that Prince was not a very nice guy to his DATE. Can anyone confirm these rumors about this? I heard he was not impressed with the town and was not too friendly since the winner of the contest was not a knock-out to look at.

While watching the video when he showed up at the premier with Martha Quinn, he wispered into Lisa Barber's ear. She looked at him sort of shocked and took off a pearl necklace she was wearing and balled it up and handed it over to Prince. Prince played it off like-what are you doing- and handed them over to Jerome Benton. This was a shock to Lisa. She did not seem impressed with the whole show.
It may have just been show-biz and not a good time for her.

Just wondering what really happend down there???

yeah they said on MTV about a year ago.. Prince was more or less forced to go with her..

he didn't want to.. and MTV made Prince's manager make him go.

I don't blame Prince.



That chick barely said 2 words.. and was a shy stalker type.. with no look or vibe.

What's wrong with Sheridan? Most of the USA is made up of those type of towns. That town went all out for Prince's premiere, and they were all having fun. You can see it at the party and in the interviews they had with people around the town.

I'm not sure what was going on with Lisa. She seemed overwhelmed by all the attention. I remember feeling bummed-out that she looked like she wasn't having any fun, not that she looked like she wasn't either though. I tried calling for hours and never got through once. How come she got to win, I thought. I don't think Prince cared if she was big-boned or not. I don't think he was looking to get a girlfriend (or even a one night stand) out of the contest. He did look like he was enjoying himself though, as did Jerome!

The interview with Martha was not really an interview, was it? He just happened to pop out of nowhere, even surprised Martha, and all she asked was, "So, Prince, how do you feel?" His answer was classic, "With my hands, Martha... uh, would ya like a demonstration?" He was having fun.

Some of my relatives live in Montana and they have friends from Sheridan. Word through them was that it was a pretty big thing for the town and they all had fun with it. It was the first time my aunt paid any attention to Prince and she said, "I actually liked everything he did" (during his live performance). Maybe other "rednecks" had their eyes and ears opened to? Prince was a big thing then, remember? It was hardly a year since the whole Purple Rain craze had died down. People were really wondering whether Cherry Moon was going to be as huge as the previous movie. Yeah, even if Lisa Barber wasn't, Sheridan was excited and thankful for their moment in the spotlight.

I was watching a recap on MTV and they were saying how half the town didn't even know who Prince was! Also he had to perform on a tiny stage that he could hardly move on, that I saw with my own two eyes! I also heard he wasn't really feeling it and had to be forced to do it. With the show and all I could see how the restriction of the stage would bum him out.

Ok, I'm confused here.

Who is Lisa?? Why did they forc him to pre4m in that town and make him stay with her.

I read where Prince was very curteous to the lady that
won the contest. I have an old people magazine where it shows Prince kissing her hand and I also have seen a picture of him smiling with his arm around her.

I also know someone that has a video of this and he was quoted as saying and I have such a cute date.

Do you really think he would be mean to her just because she was not drop dead beautiful?

Personally,I think you are all seeing things that aren't there. Lisa looked Extremely Nervous. Remember this was a girl from Wyoming who had Prince as her Date. I think she looked like she was Gonna Die. I think Prince and everybody else had a fun time and although it wasn't Hollywood Enjoyed themselves. I really don't think Prince Cared what she Looked like she was the winner of a Contest from MTV and not somebody for his Pleasure. I think he was a Perfect Gentleman towards Lisa Barber.

I heard that Lisa Barber entered the MTV competition to win the premiere of UTCM in her town of Sheridan;and she also won Prince as her date.She was very quiet and shy, and Prince was the perfect gent, driving her to the cinema in his car, putting his arm around her shoulders to guide her to her seat.At the party afterwards, he refused to let her out of his sight, chatting in her ear, asking her to dance.Prince said"I gotta hot date".
Also, part of the prize was a Prince concert.They ended up taking over the Holiday Inn ballroom, which was only about 7 feet high.Prince refused to go ahead-the sound was going to be terrible-,but when he saw the look on Lisa's face, he relented and the show went ahead in cramped conditions.
