Do you guys think Prince likes '80s R&B Soul music of the 1980s is one of my favorite genes of music. Do you think Prince ever liked the R&B hits of that time? I know he has said that he doesn't listen to alot of other artists music other than his own. And alot of the music at that time was totally copying Prince's Minneapolis sound, but regardless do you ever think Prince got into that type of music or pretty much not because he was such a workaholic in the 80s and too busy with his own music?

It's bullshit that prince doesn't listen to other artists. The dude listens to stuff as varied as Parliament, Led Zepplin, Joni Mitchell, Lenny Kravitz and Motley Crue.

In the mid-80s,Prince was a huge fan of Luther Vandross' 'Give Me The Reason' and Patti LaBelle's 'The Winner In You' albums. He was listening to these albums alot back then.In fact, these two albums inspired him to come up with "Adore".

Thanks for the info SoulAlive. I remeber Prince saying alot of the R&B they played on BET recently was boring and sounded all the same. Except for perhaps TLC But I was really curious to find out what he thought of 80s artists, like as you mentioned Vandross and the like.

I think he liked many 80s artists. It's the 90s artists and songs he had a problem with I recall an interview where he totally dissed the Destiny's Child song "Bills,Bills,Bills".He said something like "No wonder relationships are so screwed up".He also said "I've been listening to alot of today's R&B and it's so whack".I have to agree with him.R&B went downhill in the 90s.

Prince leads on that he doesn't listen to anything, but that is WAY OFF the the mark! He has always had his finger on the pulse of what was-is going on from the moment he could hear the plastic hit the turntable in the 70's!

I think he does Krystal. Also, Prince contributed so much to that era of music.
