Prince (the self-titled)
For You (you gotta love the ol' school) (soo many, hits on that album) Around The World... Rave The Vault Emancipation (I play it, and people say "wow what is this!") last but not least The Rainbow Children (The fact that it was his first independent album, and got little marketing etc...It did well, better than some albums that have all the media/marketing.) Blue Don't shoot me! A coat of Blue Cashmere Blue

I don't know where you're getting 1999 Ian- every critic I've ever read gives it 4 stars or better- it's considered one of his undeniable classics.
But to me, the truly underrated Prince albums are the ones that I love through and through that never get mentioned amongst his best work. They are- Controversy- old classic Around the World in a Day- an important transition The Black Album- mad wild funk Batman- dark masterpiece Graffiti Bridge (the Prince tracks)- sums up his classic 80's period Diamonds and Pearls- a new direction and gave his career a kick in the ass Come- understated, tight and deep Crystal Ball- what's not to love? other than Make Your Mama Happy of course

A while ago when we determined the org's favorite album, "1999" fared much worse than "Sign o' the Times," "Lovesexy," "Parade" and "Purple Rain." Surely, these albums are great, but I believe that "1999" is as good as any of his other albums!

Critics loved "Sign of the Times", Hardcore followers seem to love "LoveSexy", Masses loved "Purple Rain" so no fair listing any of these 3. They are off limits. Probably the most critically acclaimed of all of Prince's albums is 'Dirty Mind', if those who were around will remember. It was as if they had discovered manna. As far as which album is most underrated, it's hard to say. After all, '1999' changed the sound of popular black music after it's release. It was also the album that truly introduced Prince to the "masses". Double record set, no less. But given that today is Sunday and I'm wearing blue jeans, I'll say 'One Night Alone'. Ask me again tomorrow.

Easy. Crystal Ball. That should have gotten more attention. I also think it was one of his greatest blunders because, considering the size of his vault, it should have been better. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. There are a few I have to include here...
Parade (STILL sounds fresh) Come (Took me a while to appreciate this one but now one of my faves) Chaos & Disorder (don't get why people hate this one so much) NPS (HATED this when it came out...but after a year or so, got into it a bit more and now listen to it all the time).

Come : I loved this album from the moment it was released.
For You : I was listening to 'In Love' and 'Crazy You' just yesterday - great songs. The Vault : I liked this project immediately as well. Overall, an enjoyable listen.

I agree with those who mentioned , Come & the Gold Experience. Above all those, I believe the Rainbow Children to be most underrated. I think there was such a great flow to that album.
