Omg guys you really have to keep this performance in perspective. This was X rated back in the day. I remember when I had to wait untill 10:30 at night to even HOPE to hear this jam on the radio on KDWB back in the day. I know it might not look like much now but when it aired...omg "GETT OFF" was like THE song!!!! sexy

2 live crew had already hit, as had Madonna with getting more and more explicit....

I was in college when this aired, and everyone was way more impressed with the arsenio hall performance. The buttless pants were the only thing that people really held on too.... razz

I hope you're writing figuratively.

I happen to like the sleaze. hmph!

There's nothing wrong with how he is now. But consider this: The people, as a collective, have fucking horrendous taste in just about everything, and can only handle entertainment when it's numbed down and dumbed down and sanitized in some way or another. I don't think the overt sexuality was what scared people off in the past -it was the outright weirdness of it all. So now Prince has cleaned up his potty mouth and hid the overtly strange clothes and other trappings in the back of his closet. Maybe what we see now is the real Prince, maybe the old one was. Maybe neither. But is it really a good thing that a population of people that pictures American Idol and dumbass CSI as quality entertainment have warmed to him now -and only because he started trying to fit in?

I agree that this VMA performance was a bit too much but I do love the sexual Price.
