Did you try to dress like him? I would LOVE to see a picture of that! This question was probably for Supa but in my case. I didn't. I actually tried to dress like Madonna.....I was, I think, in 7th grade when her first album dropped. Of course, we dressed like the male version of Madonna. I wasn't in drag or anything. Do refer to sexual attraction by straight men or attraction to his music?

I have to admit something. Prince was the first guy I was ever attracted to. It was when I was 5 during the Purple Rain era. Obviously, I didn't know anything about attraction and sex but I remember seeing the videos, especially Lets Go Crazy, and seeing him with the guitar, the bike and Appolonia and the heels and thinking how cool he was and being attracted to him all at the same time.
His music was first and foremost, the most important thing to me. The funk brought me in but the image was just amazing. The way he mixed and still mixes the sexuality, the spiritualty and the aggressiveness with his performances that makes him sexy, cause he's a sexy man. I don't look at him like that anymore, but even with him being a JW, the sexuality still oozes out of him. You know you're the man when you have straight men wanting to hit it. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

vainandy said: The only gay men I know that like Prince are here on the org. Except for one or two of them, all the gay men I know can't stand Prince. They say "Prince is fish. That's a woman honey." I say "Of course he is, I'm not asking if you want to sleep with him but isn't him being fish as hell all the more reason to love him more as a role model?".
The ones I know just don't like his music. It's too hard for them. They would rather look up to some woman that makes weak ass music like Shitney Houston or Anita Baker. It seems like everyone they look up to is a woman. I'm the exact opposite of them. I'm not a damn woman and sure as hell can't relate to one. I can, however, relate to a man with feminine qualities that I'm sure has had to go through the same hate and discrimination as I have. And the fact that he's mean as hell and makes hard ass music that is the furthest thing than what homophobic people consider as stereotypical gay music, makes me love him even more. Preach!!!!! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

if Prince had a vagina --straight men would bang him, lesbians would lick him and gay guys would still like his music ? So do you mean to say that Prince would be a man with a vagina or a hairy woman? For the record, I think he's a woman. A hairy woman with a penis, but a woman. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

My point exactly. Even gay dudes that like their men on the swishy side are still attracted because they're men. Prince, while definitely male (as the infamous camel toe shot and the odd groupie rumour attests to) isn't quite it, at least not in the traditional sense. So it's not surprising that very few, if any, gay men find him attractive. And it's equally unsurprising that certain bisexual and straight-identified men do. Again, what that all says about women who have the hots for our hero is anybody's guess. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I'm gay, and have never really found prince attractive. There has been the odd photo or video where Ive thought he looks cute, or his sex appeal is overwhelming, but I'm definitely not attracted to him as I am other men. Its purely about his music, but there is also a love of how he defied conventions buried in there too.
I look at the Prince of the Dirty Mind / Controversy era and I see the man as a hero for what he was trying to do and say. Championing the cause of all those who don't fit into society's "conventions", be it down to their sexuality, their ethnicity, or simply their kooky dress sense. He helped to shape the perception of men in modern times. The belief that men have to be a certain way to be gay and a certain way to be straight was challenged by him, and for that i thank him. I think a lot of people are surprised Prince attracts a lot of gay men, because the music generally associated with the homosexual lifestyle is house / disco music - but that is of course a generalisation, and Im rarely surprised when I meet a Prince fan who's gay. I can honestly say Prince hits almost every spot for me as a music icon and artist. The flamboyant showmanship is gay gay gay - his music is individual and unique, and he is highly sexual and unashamed of it.

At the risk of straying too far off topic, I think that's what's lead to some of the fanbase feeling uncomfortable with or alienated by his choice of religion nowadays. Prince attracted a lot of his fans because he was so unafraid of gender and sexual boundaries. Uptown was more than just a song to a lot of people. They really believed in the ideal. That he's chosen to join a faith that has relatively strict ideas about sex and the place and role of men and women feels like a betrayal, in a way. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

The mission statement he sang of in Uptown resonates in my brain, and it is a little disappointing to see he's gone in a different direction. That said, he still did what he did back then, and I believe it helped make a difference. As a Madonna fan I feel a similar sort of disappointment about her now too. With age she's chosen to become more acceptable and preachy with her religious beliefs. I still dont necessarily think any less of them both, i'm just a little disappointed I guess.

Well, my boyfriend said that Prince woos women the way a woman would woo a man. He uses his eyes, lips, and hair in a variety of "come hither" looks. Maybe that's why some straight guys take notice, because they can't resist batting eyelashes, moistened lips, and shiny hair. Let's just say, my boyfriend had to look away a few times while we watched Graffiti Bridge, and it wasn't just because of the bad acting! Well said by your boyfriend...he has that affect!!!

I dont mind gay men liking prince, but sometimes when i stumble upon the next thread about: Prince hands are so beautifull! His feet are so delicate! His eyes are making me weak! i sometimes get very irritated, because gay men sometimes seem to have the tendency to pay attention to trivialities that heterosexual men (like me) can't relate to.
Sorry to say, but sometimes these kind of threads take over Prince.org, while i am first of all interested in his music. And therefore the site Housequake.com is a better place to discuss his music, thats all.

On the one hand, there's nothing wrong with a person wanting to settle down a bit as they begin to age, and plenty of people get religion as they get older, but to do a 180 on things that were so important to you and so many other people because of it is actually a little sad, IMO. His music along with his image is so camp its not true, all this make up, purple clothes, mulatto origins, prancing, obsession withsex, kitsch, mincing on stage, don't look at me I am a star its sooo DIVA!!!!!
This man(thyng) is too camp for words, he is like a row of pink tents, most of the songs could be interpreted in a homosexual way, gay men dink champagne from a glass with chocolate handles, play in each others ocean and do me baby as well. Hes just really out there. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince
