Im not an enginer but I've seen that Reason is used 4 midi files. Doesnt Prince use midi files? I will ask informations about it.

Reason isn't really a recording program, it's a bunch of software synthesizer/drum machine module / sample players integrated together. An old concept that sells a lot to the amateur end of music production because of its straightforwardness. But it really is no use for recording of real instruments, vocals and so on. Prince probably has it too if I remember correctly, but I doubt he would use it. He seems to have a lot of stuff he doesn't really employ.

I'm not sure what you are exactly referring to with "midi files" (.MID files are these days of limited use, but I think you are just referring to the use of MIDI in general which of course is as typical practise as ever) - all sequencer programs of today are capable of handling sequential midi data and it is the standard communication language between different pieces of electronic musical gear and computers. Reason can handle it too, but Reason is more of a budget solution. Prince can afford all the features that are available in Reason as separate professional quality units.[/quote]

***** Now I gotcha. I use Reason bcuz Im arranging my music on my own. I would like 2 have somebody 2 play.... I add 2 my music violin, viola, cello, trumpet, etc.. I cant play all these instruments so I must use the "artificial" way. Prince is luckier bcuz He can afford 2 pay ppl playing 4 him. An human player is MUCH BETTER than a machine. Its not my intention using Reason 4 all my lifetime.

Now that I well remember Reason aint used with audio tracks.....

The updated version of CUBASE SX is cool. It has much more tools of the previous version.

Is Protools 4 Window, Unix or Mac?

Protools is for Macintosh . There is a lighter version for PC, but I doubt Prince would use it. There are no professional recording programs for Unix at the moment.

Reason does not record but it is a viable sequencer. If you want to do sequencing it runs with the big boys. If you want to record and edit you need something like Cubase or Pro Tools. Alot of professional producers use Reason -I read that the Neptunes used it a bit when it first came out. It really doesn't matter though. As an artist you use what you are accustomed to and what you have access to. If something comes along and it works you, you just incorporate it. It definately doesn't do the work for you. A talented painter can create a masterpiece with a box of crayons - And a talented musician can create hits with a 4 track a drum set and a squier guitar.
