Why is Prince timid offstage but on fire onstage?

I think it is interesting the complete parallel Prince shows offstage and on. Has anyone ever wondered why he is completely outgoing and shows so much showmanship onstage, but when he's around people he's just the opposite (unless he really knows them). I think he almost has a bit of a people phobia sometimes, partly because he seems naturally shy, plus living a lifetime of people teasing him because of his height.

Does anyone know how he could be so different like that?

(I don't think him being a Gemini has anything to do with it.)

Because up on stage, Prince knows he has no equal! Up there, he is the motherfucking man! The stage is his Realm and no one can touch him!

Offstage he has to deal with OPS! (Other People's Shit!)

Many artists are like that. Me too. I can be very shy and stand-offish around strangers or people I just don't know that well. But on stage it's a different thing because there you play a character (more or less). Plus you are the center of attention and somehow it makes you feel stronger. You don't have the feeling that people look down on you or notice faults or whatever. It's a powerful feeling that brings out another side in you. It's like "Yeah, they've all come to look at me(and maybe the others on stage but who cares). This is my chance to show them what I'm capable of!"
As soon as you're off stage there isn't that distance to other people and you feel more human and "normal" again... It's hard to explain.

lol. Right. Onstage you do feel like you've got the power, you're in control.
Offstage... not so. You can't rehearse for real life...

It has nothing to do with his height! When he's onstage it's a performance and he has created an image. He is phenomenal at what he does and he's extremely confident. Also many people are shy around people they don't know,it takes time to open up and to trust them. Can you imagine how that is for Prince? He is gaurded when he does interviews (in my opinion) but I think there is just cause for it. Everybody hanging on his every word, waiting to pounce. Heck he walks out the door, into an awards show and people are chewing his a$$ off.

Some people are extraverted but also shy.

I remember Michael Jordan saying that the most comfortable time for him is on the basketball court. When he is there he is safe and feel at peace. I am sure P feels the same, when he is on stage he can be himself, do something he loves and be safe from the public.

I've never believed that Prince as a shy person. He's more reticent than shy. That's a little different.

I think I'm kind of like that. I'm 20 and I've been doing pageants and public things for at least 15 of those 20 years and onstage with a microphone in my hand, I'm fine and outgoing and junk but if you walked up on me and started talking, you'd think I'm the shy-est person you ever met. I think onstage Prince feels invincible he has his guitar in his hand and his band backing him and legions of fans flinging thongs at him. Off stage he actually has to talk to some people and I kind of like that he's a little shy or at leasts acts like it.

I'm more fascinated with the celebrites that seem really shy off stage. I don't like the outgoing people I like the recluses.

That's always fasinated me too, but I don't really think he's shy either just doesn't like to talk and very careful with what he says.

I'm the same way when I have dance performances. I get anxious before I go on stage, but once I'm up there, I wish that performance was longer because I'm having so much fun - I feel like I could do anything.

My attitude is totally different offstage, I don't really talk to anybody unless I notice something about them that makes me want to be their friend or talk to them.

being a gemini and prior performer, i can tell you it has a lot to do with it wink , i am very reserved in "social" settings, but get in on a stage, and i am a totally different person.
