I liked it, I thought Stephanie did a good job singing it. I wonder if Stephanie knows that it's an original song by Prince, and not by Alicia Keys. I'm willing to bet that there's a lot of fools out there who think "How Come You Don't Call Me" is a song that Alicia Keys wrote. @ them. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

AI was on in the background at my mother in law's house. We were all talking and not paying attention. Then during the "recap" at the end I stopped the conversation and said, "babe, that girl is singing Prince, I can't believe he let her do that!"
I never actually saw the whole show, I wasn't close to the tv when "How Come You Don't Call Me" was first sung. I didn't know they tried to pass it off as an Alicia Keys song. Then again, it's a new generation. I bet Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick are a little annoyed that we call "A House is Not a Home" Luther Vandross's song.

I think you misunderstood my post. I didn't say that they tried to pass off "How Come You Don't Call Me" as an Alicia Keys song. I was merely saying that I was willing to bet that a lot of people didn't know that it was a song that Prince had written. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I comprehended (that's why I noted "A House is Not a Home"). I also think you are correct, especially since that song is a Prince B-side. That's how it goes in new generations.
I was just saying that since I didn't pay attention to the show from the beginning I didn't know they noted the original artist as Alicia Keys. Unless they didn't which would make this a pointless conversation.

They didn't note it the song as being originally sung by Alicia Keys, in fact, they didn't really announce the original singers of any of the songs that were sung. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Funny you should mention that. I had to correct my wife the other day on that very song. She swore up and down that Alicia Keys wrote it until I had to take her to school and play the original. She finally excepted her misjudgment, but then made the ridiculous comment that Alicia did a better job! I called my lawyer the next day.

It sucked so bad. She sounded like shit. I don't know why the judges praised her so much.
It was a little pitchy, dog. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
