Has he ever played Rebirth of Flesh in concert?

I dunno, man. I don't think he should or can retire Purple Rain. Not so much because it's tied to the movie, it's his "signature song", blah, blah. F that noise. There's something about the way he sometimes performs that song that really hits people.
I've seen him on just about every U.S. tour since 1999, and there are maybe 1 or 2 performances where you can tell he's just going through the motions. However, most of the time there isn't a dry eye in the crowd by the time he starts the 3rd verse, and lots of people are bawling their eyes out by the time he gets to the solo. I've even seen Prince shedding a tear or two a couple times. You can see it on tape on "Prince and the Revolution: Live in 1985" I remember dragging this buddy to see him during the Act II tour, and he was laughing at me and the rest of the fans before the concert. But during Purple Rain he was watching the way people were reacting, and next thing I knew my bro was starting to cry too! Prince still hasn't told anyone what that song is really all about yet, has he?

i can see the point...but to this day, nothing moves me like a live performance of purple rain....i guess it is the emotion he puts into it live, but it still brings tears to my eyes...so no, it shouldn't be retired.

jaimestarr79 said: I think all of his usual songs should be retired from live performances. Songs like Lets go crazy, purple rain, kiss, rasberry beret, etc should be officially retired. All are classic jams but let's change it up a little. If you are gonna play Kiss, play a remix version. Let's start hearing more b-sides in live performances. I can't remember ever hearing jams in concert such as DMSR, Let's Pretend we're Married, Erotic City, 17 days, She is always in my Hair, Joy in repetition, The One, Beautiful Strange, etc ( I realize that some of these tracks I mentioned are not just B-sides )
I wish he would dust off some of his classic remixes. Prince will always be the King of Remixes and Extended Versions. I would love to hear a concert of tracks that were never released as singles. I've seen numerous shows over the years. It seems like the shows he has done in the last five years, he always plays pretty much the same songs. Remember back in the day when you would go to different cities during a tour, and every show was different? Nope, lets not !!!

Hits should ONLY be played when he steps out of the US. We've been saturated, unlikely the famished europeans.

Prince and the "hits"? I think he can mix it up enough with arrangments and obsucre stuff to make it interesting. We are hardcore fans and it's our own fault we've heard "let's go crazy" 800000 times. If I was a novice I'd be disappointed if at my 1st Prince show he didn't play "Purple Rain". "New Power slide...."

I dunno if I would go quite that far. I could see it being a close race tho.
