Prince...The real Pied Piper? The "Fan Since '78' thread got me and my daughter talking about how young I was when I first got into Prince's music. I was 8 when I first heard him and became a hardcore fan when I was 9. There are other posts that are similar to my story which made my daughter remark that, "R Kelly, ain't got nothing on Prince, he should have been named the Pied Piper of RnB!"
So what I want to know is how many of us were just babies when we got into Prince and how did Prince and/or his music influence your growing up? I can honestly say that because of Prince and his influence on my impressionable young mind; I grew up to be a self-confident, driven, creative, talented, my way or the highway, ego-maniac. Thanks, Prince! I owe you, man!

I was about 4. I feel like his music made an impression on me...it made me smarter...or more of a smart-ass....something like that.

If he's the real Pied Piper,
does this make us, his fans, vermin?

After the greedy King and townsfolk refused to pay the Pied Piper for ridding the town of the vermin. He came back the next night and played music that only the children could hear. The children followed the Pied Piper, abandoning the record industry...oops, I mean the Kingdom and all of it's selfish ways.

I grew up a nympho.
A confused little girl who hates labels. and a writer. which is awesome, because I love me. [Edited 1/16/07 16:48pm] Your lips would make a lollipop too happy.

I grew up very shy and quiet to those who didn't know me.Being, usually, the only black child in a predominantly white classroom played a big part of that.By the time Prince hit it big with Purple Rain, being black suddenly, slowly became more acceptable to the other kids.
Prince was everything a black male wasn't suposed to be.Prince was all that and so much more.He was different because he took those roles, said "fuck 'em" and remade them into something that could never be labeled. I have to say that Prince influenced my love for exotic(and really all shades of) women, breaking racial and male gender sterotypes and awareness of how God can be found in the most unusual places.
