God forbid-If Prince messes up Super Bowl show

I've only seen a couple of performances from Prince where I've scratched my head (David Letterman, being dragged off the stage), but I've said to myself that I hope that his performance changes the world's opinion of him, for those who say they don't like him. I really want people to talk more about his great performance more than the game itself but I can't help but think, "what if he screws up and becomes the laughing stock? I wish I knew what he plans on doing for the show. I guess we can only wait and see.

Im sure he will be extrodinary. I hope he doesnt mess up neither. But I don't know, I always got the vibe that if Prince isnt doing the performance for himself and is just doing it to do it[if that makes sense.] then he just doesnt care what he looks like and doesnt give it his all. But either way, Im sure will be very pleased.

I think the days of Stauros speeches, bare buttcheeks and being dragged off stage are over.

I think he'll do a nice little mini-set of maybe something from 3121, Let's Go Crazy and a James Brown number or something like that.

He's going to be fine....

I could do without the standards, but you gotta know that "Let's Go Crazy" and "Purple Rain" will be included in the set

and that isn't a bad thing, in that setting they could both be done in an amazing and new way.....

So, let's give him a little credit, he knows what he's doing..

I hated the idea of "American Idol" and that turned out to be very cool

Prince always has had a self-destructive streak, a streak that say's "fuck you" to everyone in him. You never can predict when that will come out. Hopefully not during the superbowl.

What's sooo terrible about Larry Graham? I know some dislike him simply because he's a JW and others 'cause he's (according to them) sleezy. What's your reason?
Sleezy or not, the man has done some awesome music.

I'm uninterested in prince showcasing Larry. I want to see PRINCE not Grand Central Station.

There is a sleezy quality about him.

any other questions?

I can see it now, Larry Graham up there, sweat drippin' off his big ass mustache yelling, "Little Brother, get on the mic!", Prince: "You don't want me on the mic!", Larry: "Little brother, get on the mic!"., Prince: "You don't want me on the mic!"

frightening

Call me crazy, but what exactly is the "Stauros"?
I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me.
Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots.
Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol.
Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

I was wondering about the "dragged off the stage" reference, myself! lol
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Huh? Stauros is a stake/pole that Jehovah's Witnesses believe Jesus was strapped/impaled on as opposed to a cross. Anyways, Prince changed the lyrics of "The Cross" to "The Christ" to better reflect his beliefs. He did this whole speech about it at an awards show (NAACP Image awards?).

Prince was "dragged" off stage on Letterman in 1994 after performing a mock suicide-Mayte cradled his lifeless form and a bodyguard dragged him away. Sniffle Sniffle-just life Christoper Tracy.
"New Power slide...."

During the New Power Soul era, when Prince was also producing Chaka Khan's and Larry's Graham's albums, he heavily adopted Larry's Graham's beliefs about JW.

This was a very painful era to watch - Prince really did seem to be brainwashed by Larry Graham, who knows why. Maybe he was a father figure, maybe Prince admired him from his days with Sly & The Family Stone. Either way, Prince changed from being all-welcoming SPIRITUAL to exclusively-JW RELIGIOUS. Big difference.

Well, Prince really took a JW translation of the Bible literally. The Greek "Stauros" (which they say is what Jesus was nailed to) translates directly into "stake". Well, what one person translates as a stake can also be translated into a "pole", etc etc. Prince really tried to denounce the entire "Cross" theory because all of a sudden HE knew the truth and we didn't. He argued that every image we've ever seen of Jesus, with the Cross, hands to the side, is wrong. He argued that what Jesus was impaled upon was nothing more than a pole in the ground (similar to our electric poles now) with his hands overhead. Then he speculated (in his know-it-all tone) that if that part of Christian history is false, then what else is . . .?

It was wierd, eccentric, and off-putting.

Performance-wise, you're right. He really is one of the best performers I've ever seen, and has really honed his act to near-perfection.

Any "off" moments are usually due to poor mixing of lead/background vocals and guitar volume . . . but those are VERY rare.

What is wrong with you people? Prince is a professional with a capital P. Why are you doubting him suddenly when was the last time you saw him 'mess up'. The Superbowl ain't nothing but another gig, trust me! thumbs up!

Actually, the super Bowl is a big event. The fact he was invited is an indication he's accepted by mainstream society. BEFORE ANYONE GETS ON THEIR HIGH HORSE.....
In his earlier years he was quite riske for that period of time. He's older, more sophisticated, religious? wears suits, eliminated the extreme sexual innuendo... and after last year's fiasco...The superbowl needs a clean cut performance.
The LV concerts suggests to me he can pull it off without a hitch. He's a professional. I have no doubt the Prince organization understands the impact this will have on his career. I predict he'll be playing at the White House some day. He's never had a bigger audience than what he's going to get.
I just don't see him exposing a nipple in the Versace/Armani. Doesn't go with the outfit.
