Did U like Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic?

I was listening to Rave unto the Joy Fantastic recently, and i was thinking about when it first came out, how raw the opening track was..it kinda reminded me of His Royal Badness from the SOTT era. Then as the album got on it lost it's spark. How do you guys feels about this particular album? To me, it sounds like a hello to Mani and a goodbye to Mayte with tracks like "The Greatest Romance thats Ever been Sold", "Baby Knows" and "Hot Wit U" , and on the other hand "I Luv U but I Can't Trust u Anymore" and "Man of War" were the break up songs between Mayte and himself. Did u like this album or still listen or play it now. What are your feeling s? confused

I like "Rave In2..." better. And I sincerely hope that album marks his last foray into rap.

I think it's got some good songs, but it was a disappointment at the time. 1999 should have brought something really hot.

1999 was Prince's trademark year . . . something bigger should've happened musically.

Rave In2/Un2 was a very good project though IMO. I think I liked that "era" more than I did the "album". He was dressing like Jesus with robes, long hair, and a goatee. That's the last time he really looked intense (he's been more tame lately).

Aside from a few duds (Silly Game, Tangerine) it's a very nice collection of songs.

I like Tangerine...short & sweet. smile

As for the album I prefer Rave In2 myself, but there's some good stuff hidden amongst the crap on here: the title track, the greatest romance', strange but true, pretty man...i love u but i don't trust u anymore is also probably the last classic ballad we've had from him.

It's decent. Some fantastic tracks (Man O' War, Tangerine) are weighed down by some truly bad ones (Hot Wit U... blah).
I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

don't have the album and don't care. I loooved the greatest romance ever sold though, and it was a treat watching his concert on vh1. Only he could rock a leather catsuit. And I totally freaked when lenny kravitz came onstage and they sang american woman, awesome!

There were some really good songs on that album. It also reflected another transition in P's life, with the departure of Mayte. "Wherever you go, whatever you do..." makes me a little misty eyed.

I don't consider it a very successful album, it might be one of his worst for that matter. However there is something about the album's mood that I like a whole lot more than what many of the album's from the 90s were able to convey. It's a winter-y album in some sense, it has that sort of cosy coldness. Maybe it's just because the cover art being mostly white. confused

The stuff that sounded like his 80s stuff was as good as I had expected (I hadn't expected that much though after NPS), the more contemporary material didn't really work to my ears.

Yes, as a matter of fact i've been groovin on the cd for the last couple of days. It's more like spring: top down, fresh flowers, new styles. cool

There were some really good songs on it, and a few hideous ones. I thought the overall sequencing of it was terrible. I did my own version of it, mixing tracks from Rave un2 and Rave in2 and dropping a couple of the bad ones (Please.... "Hot Wit U"...????", and switched up the sequencing, and i really like it.

I guess to each his own. cool But I do think ManOwar is one of his most underrated ballads.

I love that album. So Far So Pleased, Wherever U Go Whatever U Do, and The Greatest Romance Ever Sold are some of my favourite Prince songs.

A question bout the dvd Rave un2 the year 2000 - is there supposed to be some kind of insert with a tracklist? On the case it says "complete tracklist inside" but I guess they meant within the menu of the dvd itself cause there was no tracklist in mine.
